Mason Michael Ethier
(April 4, 2008 – July 21, 2025)
Mason Michael Ethier was born in Fort McMurray hospital at 7:47 am and moved to Forestburg when he was 2. Mason wanted to be a welder and heavy-duty mechanic. He was doing the RAP program for welding at Battle River Iron Works welding shop. Mason worked at the bottle depot for the last two years working with his big brother Johnny. He recently started working with Tim and Chris at Moustache Bros where he learnt to roof, do windows, and doors. He had a lot of fun working with them.
Mason just finished grade 11 and was excited to be going into grade 12. He was known for always giving the middle finger, mischievous smiles, taking selfies with only half his face and always having a hat on. He always wore a hoodie, no matter what the temperature was -30 or +30. Mason always had to have the mirrors in moose mode and if you put them back down, he would instantly put them back up. Almost every conversation he had revolved around trucks, especially 4th generation trucks. Mason was always ready, willing, and able to help who ever needed it from helping people move to pulling his friends out of the ditch.
Mason was very close with his brother and sister; they were always doing something together. When he was playing Xbox online with Johnny, they were in different rooms 5 feet away from each other while on the phone so they could still talk about the game. Mason and Johnny loved taking road trips together and he always had to be in control of the music. Mason and Jasmine were inseparable; they had tea parties, watched movies, and he would always steal her popcorn when his was empty. There wasn’t much they didn’t do together; he even made sure that he picked her up from school, even when he didn’t have afternoon classes.
He loved giving hugs. Almost every time he walked into a room, he would hug you and always made sure you knew he loved you. Mason loved playing basketball and especially loved his coach, Jeff. In the last few years, he had helped with the mud bogs; he loved playing in the mud, being the mud monkey, and hooking up the stuck vehicles.
In March, Mason went to Portugal with the school travel club. It was the first time he had ever left Alberta and travelled outside the country. He spent the whole trip bunking with Phoenix, since they were the only two boys on the trip. During supper one night, Mason said “I’ll just have what he’s having” which happened to be a medium rare steak even though he always ate his well-done. Since that day, he realized medium rare was how loved his steak and that was the only way he’d eat it. The first thing he wanted after he was picked up from the airport was to go to Boston Pizza and have a medium rare steak.
Mason really was a friendly giant; he came into this world 9lbs 3 ounces, 17” and left 6’2” 270lbs and size 15 shoes.
A Celebration of Life was held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Forestburg Community Centre, 5402-50 Ave W Forestburg, officiated by Rev. MaryAnn Pastuck.
