Obituary of Mary Ann Campbell
Mary Ann Campbell (née MacDonald) passed away February 7, 2025 at the Aberdeen Hospital. Born on July 15, 1945, in Landsdowne, Mary Ann grew up in Trenton before moving to Abercrombie, where she raised her family. Most recently, she resided at Valley View Villa.
Mary Ann was a devoted mother whose love for her children was the cornerstone of her life. Despite being busy with her six children, she also cared for other children in her home. Her home was always open to her children’s friends. After her youngest child started school, Mary Ann began working outside the home, first at the Abercrombie store and later at Sobeys, where she spent many years in the bakery. Her beautiful cake decorating skills were highly sought after. Following her retirement from Sobeys, she worked alongside her husband, Howard, at Kenworth Nova Scotia.
In her younger years, Mary Ann was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Abercrombie Fire Department. She had a creative nature, taking up sewing and making many of her children’s clothes. This creativity was also evident in her love of leatherwork, with some of her creations now being treasured memories for those who have them. Mary Ann loved to dance and never turned down a good bingo game. She cherished road trips and put many miles on her old Oldsmobile, carting the boys from rink to rink. Mary Ann had a sharp wit and a sparkle in her eye that remained despite her illness, often sharing funny quips or stories that left everyone laughing.
Perhaps Mary Ann’s greatest source of joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was surrounded by their photos and glowed with pride when she spoke about them. She loved their visits and was a beloved ‘Nan’ to them all.
Left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are her husband, Howard Campbell, and her children: Dougie (Lori Ann MacWha) Cormier, Janet (Barry) Avery, Kevin (Alice) Cormier, Brian (Erin) Cormier, Lynda (Bob) Lochead, and Lori Cormier. She is also survived by her siblings: Alex (Bernadette) MacDonald, Carol MacNeil, and Evelyn (Doug) DeGruchy; brother-in-law Dan, sisters-in-law Beatrice, Lorriane, Janie, Sharon and Marie. Mary Ann will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Annie MacDonald; her in-laws, Emma and Dan Campbell; step-siblings, Cyril MacDonald and Anita Munro; and her beloved fur baby, Benji, who held a special place in her heart.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Valley View Villa for their love and care while Mary Ann resided at the Villa as well for the compassionate care of the EHS Attendants, Dr Straub and the ER Department at the Aberdeen Hospital. Your kindness will be fondly remembered.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 1 pm until the time of the funeral service at 3 pm in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Donations in her memory may be made to the Elderdog: elderdog.ca
