Taylor, Mary
Isabel,
66, of Paqtnkek Mikmaw Nation, passed away peacefully with her husband
by her side on Friday February 14, in St. Martha’s Regional
Hospital.
Born in
Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Denny and the late
William Poulette.
Mary was a
strong woman, and her strength was evident in the way she loved those
in her life, especially Mike her husband of 17 years and their son
Max. It was also evident in her strong will and
the way she spoke her mind, and in the way she persevered after the
loss of her daughter Melissa who she deeply
missed.
She had a
strong faith, and traveling in pilgrimage to the town of Medjugorje in
Bosnia and Herzegovina was an experience she deeply
cherished.
Mary loved
storytelling and most conversations with her veered into a story
eventually. She loved her fur babies Diesel, Pixel and her 4
cats. She could often be found in the kitchen working on her
projects, headphones on listening to Cher, and dancing like no one was
watching. A scene Mike would often come upon (and has a few
videos as evidence), but if she noticed or not, she never stopped
dancing.
Mary was an
artist, although she wouldn’t call herself one, but her
beading, regalia, and photography tell a different
story. She loved taking photos of plants,
animals, and the people around
her.
She is
survived by her husband Mike and son Max, Paqtnkek; siblings, Mary
Catherine, Paqtnkek; Levi, Paqtnkek; Glenn (Tanya), Membertou; and
Josie, Paqtnkek; and many nieces, nephews and
godchildren.
Besides her
parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Melissa Johnson; siblings
Billy, Diane, Cecilia, and Richard; and brother-in-law Terry
Paulette.
Mary will rest
on Thursday February 20, after 4 pm in the Paqtnkek Community
Gym. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 22 at
11:00am in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton,
Reverend Gary MacPherson presiding. Burial in the
Summerside Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the
Canadian Liver Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry Funeral
Home, Antigonish. Online condolences:
