Obituary of Mark Laverne Martin
Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 18th, 2025.
Mark is survived by his parents Laverne and Elizabeth. His wife Deborah of 20 years. Son’s Barry (Melissa), Dale (Cathy), Michael (Carolyn), and John Ballard. Brother Marlowe (Lisa), Sisters Maureen (Don), Marjorie (Doug), Melodee (Kevin). Brother-in-law to Dave Cowell. Mark had 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by grandparents Abraham and Ellen Martin and Jack and Elizabeth Schwartz.
Mark was completely devoted to his family as a husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the art of fishing and playing games with them.
He will be sadly missed by his friends at Olympia Village and Resort, waving hello to all who walked past. Morning tea on the deck with neighbours, playing Farkle, and cards, or just to lend an ear to those that needed him. Helping neighbours with projects or giving advice. Those who knew Mark knew how stubborn he could be and would never ask for their help.
We will miss his sense of humour and his laughter. Yelling at the TV when the Leafs and the Jays weren’t doing so well!
He was an awesome fur daddy to our cat Holly, who misses him terribly. Nothing was too good for her. Mark will be forever in our hearts
Special thank you to all the medical staff at GRH in ICU A for the exceptional care and support that you provided to our family.
As per Mark’s wishes, a private funeral service will be held. All are welcome to a Celebration of Mark’s life on Sunday April 6, 2025, further information to come regarding the time and place.
