It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Marion Marguerite (Ditta Campbell) MacDonald of Harbour View, Inverness County, N.S. on January 25, 2025. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home where she has been residing for the past four years. She was 100 years old.
She leaves us to join her beloved husband, Duncan T. MacDonald who passed away in 2000. She is also predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Donald MacKenzie, her parents Annie Laurie (Gillis) and James Campbell, her brothers Hugh John (Louise) and Erwin Campbell and her sister Catherine Campbell.
She is survived by her children, Elaine (James) Loftus, Toronto, Carol (Bill) MacDonald, Judique, Edward (Barbara) MacDonald, Port Hood and Leonard and Lyndon MacDonald, Toronto as well as her siblings, Rose (Alexander-d) MacDonald, Niagara Falls, ON. Omer (Maud) Campbell, Harbour View, Daniel and James Campbell, Brookline, MA. Her grandchildren, Stephen MacDonald, Oakville, ON. Christopher (Petra) MacDonald, St. Margaret’s Bay, N.S., Risa (Brian) Cameron, Hatchet Lake, N.S. and Shannon (Andrew) Walmsley, Toronto, and her great grandchildren, Cameron, Drew, Thomas, Kate, Madeline, Claire and Hudson.
Marion was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend; a modern woman with many wonderful attributes. Her kindness, wit, indelible memory and gift for telling a story, stories passed down to her from her father-in-law; steeped in the history, people and events of her small community. She was grounded in her faith, devoted to her rosary and dedicated to her family. As a testament to the love and warmth she brought into our lives, her memory will reside in our hearts and thoughts forever.
Thank you to the caregivers, nurses and everyone at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home who were so attentive and caring to Marion. Also thank you to our close family friend, Edwin Hawley for his weekly visits which meant so much to her and to Margie Cameron for her help and companionship over the years.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 30th from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Port Hood Resting Place. Funeral Mass will be at St. Peter’s Parish Port Hood on January 31st, 2025 at 11 AM. Donations may be made to the Port Hood Resting Place or a charity of your choice.
