SOUSA, Maria Figueiredo Bairos
August 23, 1936 – January 25, 2025
It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria at the age of 88. Predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Antonio (Tony) Sousa. Proud mother of her two children Lydia Monteiro (Joe) and Joe Sousa (Tammy). Greatly missed by her grandchildren Cheryl (Lyle), Alison, Micheal and Aaron. Maria will also be sadly missed by her extended family and friends.
She is also predeceased by her parents Jose and Bernadina Bairos, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joao Da Cunha Sousa and Maria De Jesus, and late sister Angelina Bairos. Loving sister-in-law to the late Manuel Da Cunha Sousa (the late Maria), the late Jose Da Cunha Sousa (Gloria), and Emilia Fontes (the late Joao Fontes). Loving aunt to the late Tony Fontes (Luisa). Also remembered by her sister Emilia Braga (the late Bernardino).
Maria enjoyed tending to her flower garden, baking traditional Portuguese sweets, crocheting, and visiting back home to Santa Maria when she could.
A big thank you to all the staff at Cambridge Country Manor for their dedicated care. It was greatly appreciated by both Maria and her family.
Maria is resting peacefully at Corbett Funeral Home at 95 Dundas Street North, Cambridge where family and friends will be received Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 6:00 pm–9:00 pm. Rosary will be recited at 8:00 pm.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 185 Elgin Street North, Cambridge on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Parklawn Cemetery, 750 Fountain Street, Cambridge.
