Margot Green (nee Rojas) passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4th at The Ottawa Hospital. She was 91 years of age.
As the heart of her family, she will forever be celebrated and remembered by her children Alistair, Rosanna (Peter) and Michelle (Edward.) She was predeceased by her beloved husband Timothy as well as her parents Cecil and Margaret Rojas, sister Marlene Holmgren, nephews Roger Melizan and Rory Camacho and niece Ria Holmgren. She will be dearly missed by her sisters Anita Melizan, Zoila Augustus (Norman) and Thérèse Camacho (David.) She was Granny / Grans to her 8 grandchildren; Miles, Leo, Dane (Katerina), Brett (Irena), Taylor, Tiffany, Gregory and Natasha who were the joys of her life. Margot was also close to her godchildren, many nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren.
Margot was not only the heart of her family she was also the heart of her community. She was a devoted member of countless organizations, most notably The Brockville Community Choir, The Brockville Operatic Society and The Brockville Theatre Guild where she was a committed member and volunteer. She was known locally for her longstanding column in the Brockville Recorder & Times ‘What’s on at the Arts Centre.’
Before she arrived in Brockville Margot was born in La Fortuné Estate in Trinidad on November 7th, 1933. At age 5 she attended Miss Gill’s Private School driven to and from school in a horse and buggy. She later transferred to St. Joseph’s Convent where she spent many happy years. It was there her musical talents were recognized both her prodigious singing voice and playing the piano.
After obtaining her Senior Cambridge School Certificate she became a teacher at St. Joseph’s Convent before joining the Royal Bank of Canada and marrying her husband Tim. After becoming a mother, she returned to teaching until her family moved to Canada on July 12th, 1971, moving beside her sister Marlene. She joined the Brockville Operatic Society where she found a home away from home as well as many longstanding friends.
Margot returned to teaching and taught music across 4 schools in Brockville and Prescott. After teaching, she opened Elite Natural Foods in Downtown Brockville. Retirement did not slow Margot down, she continued with singing, her career as a volunteer and became something of a fitness guru, doing back-to-back classes 4 days a week at the YMCA till she was 90.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 66 Church Street, Brockville at 11.30 a.m. with interment taking place following the Mass at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Lyn Road. Family and friends are then invited to a celebration of Margot’s life at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brockville Community Choir would be greatly appreciated.
