Obituary of Margery Elizabeth Anderson
Margery “Marge” Elizabeth Anderson (nee Harris), formerly of Berwick passed away on July 18, 2025, in the Blomidon Court, Greenwich at age 90. Born in Paradise, NS on February 4, 1935, Marge was the daughter of the late Charlie and Ida (Munro) Harris.
Margery was known to her friends and family as, Marge
After graduating from Bridgetown High School, Marge attended Acadia University where she completed a BSc (Biology) in 1955 and a BEd in 1957. While at Acadia she met the love of her life, Rodrick « Ross » Anderson whom she married in 1958. Marge and Ross made many lifelong friends while at Acadia and attended many Acadia Alumni events over the years. She and Ross taught high school in Lawrencetown before moving to Berwick in 1964. Marge was a substitute teacher in the Annapolis Valley for many years while she raised her family.
Marge was very active in the community. She volunteered with the United Church, minor hockey, the Berwick Figure Skating Club and the Band Parent Association when her children were growing up. In later years, she volunteered with the Food Bank, Feed My Lambs, the United Church and was an enthusiastic member of the Kings Chorale. She went on numerous trips with the Kings Chorale over the years including trips to Ottawa, Germany and New York City.
Marge was an amazing cook and baker and was known for her homemade bread, pies and doughnuts. She spent many summers with her family at Ross’s mother’s ancestral property (Eoin Beaton’s farm) on the Broad Cove Banks Road near Inverness enjoying the beach at Port Ban, the beautiful scenery and the local musicians. She loved having friends and relatives stop in for coffee or a meal and was an excellent hostess. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and was an avid reader, especially mystery novels. Marge also loved cats but above all, her family and friends were the most important things in her life.
Marge was a devoted wife and mother as well as a doting Nana to Alexander and Caroline.
Marge is survived by her son, Colin (Jane Chesal) of Bedford; grandson, Alexander of Halifax; her son, Scott (Catherine) and granddaughter, Caroline of Silver Spring, MD; daughters, Heather of Wolfville, and Maura of London, ON; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marge was predeceased by her husband, Ross Anderson in 2003; brothers, Donald and Max; her sister, Frances and her daughter-in-law Raylene (Rankin) Anderson.
Marge’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Fundy Villa in Berwick and Blomidon Court in Greenwich for the excellent care they provided our mom in her later years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on August 22, 2025, in the Berwick United Church. No flowers by request.
