Margaret Rebecca Eaton Berry
January 7, 1927 – March 6, 2025
Margaret was predeceased by her husband William (Bill), son Keith, and daughter-in-law Elaine Berry. She is survived by her son Jim and daughter-in-law Ellen Berry, Stan and his wife Pam Berry. Margaret was a very proud grandmother of Morgan (Desiree), Andrew (Julia), Amanda (Matt), Thomas (Heather) and Jonathon. She was especially pleased to be a great grandmother of eight and to have been able to meet Emily, Josephine, and Brady. She will be missed by her many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Margaret grew up in Upper Canard, Nova Scotia, attending school in Kentville. Upon graduation she became a bank teller until her marriage to Bill on June 3, 1949. Together they moved to Northern Ontario working and building a family while living on many Ontario Hydro project sites. Her adaptability and creativity were displayed as she managed the 16 moves in 20 years. The family set down roots in Burlington where again she worked as a bank clerk and then a school library assistant.Although she loved camping and canoeing, the move to Burlington allowed Margaret and Bill to explore their true love of the water on their boats the “Marbil II” and then “Follow”. Her boating adventures allowed her to spend many long summer days cruising Lake Ontario, the various canal systems, and especially the Thousand Islands. Whether docking the boat, navigating new waters, or repairing diesel engines, Margaret always did so with fierce determination and a wit to match no other.
After retirement, and when boating was no longer possible, Margaret and Bill moved to a waterfront home in Napanee.Although they couldn’t be on the water they were at least near the water. While in Napanee, they joined many local clubs and particularly enjoyed being part of the South Bay community. When Bill died, Margaret decided to move to Cambridge to be closer to her son Jim and his family. Once again, she quickly established herself in a local Bridge club. Of particular importance to her was being able to attend the many family activities—piano, choir, and band concerts as well as baseball and skating events. She also loved spending time at our family cottage. However, she saved her brightest smiles and biggest hugs whenever she could be with her great-grand children, Emily, Josephine, and most recently Brady. They brought the sparkle to her eyes with each and every visit.
Our family would like to thank the incredible caring and compassionate team on A Second at Saint Luke’s Place. Their ability to show such kindness to our mother while in their care is deeply appreciated.
In memory of Margaret, the family suggests donations to Saint Luke’s Place , The Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice. As per Margaret’s wishes there will be no Memorial Service. The family will host a visitation at Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd, Cambridge from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday March 10, 2025.
