With gratitude for the gift that her life was to us, her children, we regretfully announce the passing of Margaret Noreen Parks Whittaker in Saint John; NB on February 11, 2025 at the age of 91. Margaret was born to Herschel Anthony Parks and Eva Laura Hamilton Parks in California Settlement, Victoria County , NB on June 24, 1933. She was predeceased by her husband Eldon Francis Whittaker, who she married on December 6, 1952. She was also predeceased by her sisters Leona Davenport(Earl); Almeda Rogers(Chris); Muriel Rogers(Bela); Jean Norsworthy (Jack); Arlene Whittaker(Ralph); Keith Parks (Gladys), and her daughter-in-law, Juanita Kirkpatrick Whittaker.
Margaret is survived by her children, Robin Whittaker Naish(Art); Gerald Whittaker (Marie McCann); John Whittaker (Patricia), Natalie Whittaker Granger(John); her sisters Holly Matthews (Bill) and June DeMerchant(Al). She is survived by her grandchildren Aaron Granger, Justin Granger, Holly Whittaker, Katelyn Lauzon, and Daniel Whittaker and her great grandchildren, Colin Granger, Leah Granger, Miles Granger, Violet Granger, Jacob McLaughlin and Connor McLaughlin, numerous nieces and nephews in both the Parks and Whittaker families.
Margaret provided a loving home environment for her husband and children, and, it was often the welcoming stopping off point for extended family and neighborhood kids. One of her greatest joys was getting together with her sisters and trading jokes and stories which always resulted in much laughter. They were well known for laughing ‘till they cried. Her favorite pastime was fishing, and she spent many happy days with her boys, John and Gerry, fishing, and, she could trade fishing stories with the best of them. She faced many challenges in life, but taught there is always joy to be found despite the struggles each person faces.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Rocmaura Nursing Home for the care Mom received over the past 8 years and the support shown to the family over the past few days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to the Rocmaura Nursing Home.
Family and friends are invited for Visitations at Sunbury Funeral Home on Friday February 14, 2025 from 3-6 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Sunbury Funeral Home on Saturday February 15, 2025 at 11am. with Rev. Wayne Dryer officiating. Interment will take place in the spring.
