1923 -2025
With sadness and great gratitude for her life, we announce, after a fall at home and a short battle at the Grace Hospital, the passing of Margaret Hurl (nee Clark), aged 101, on February 10, 2025.
Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Dave, her youngest son Paul, her parents James and Jenny Clark and her brother Jim. She is survived by her eldest son David (Cindy), daughter-in-law Jan; Grandchildren Jaimie, David, Meagan and Kristen and Great Grandchildren Tyson, Thomas, Alexandra, Emily and Alyssa. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and their families; of particular note are Sylvia and Jacques Cahil who were of tremendous help in her later years.
Margaret was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, graduated from Daniel Mcyntire Collegiate Institute, graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Winnipeg General Hospital and later obtained her Public Health Diploma from the University of Manitoba in 1963.
Margaret married Dave Hurl, after his return from service with the Royal Canadian Navy in 1947 and they had 62 loving years together. They enjoyed many years in their house on Moorgate St and relaxing times walking the beach, feeding the chipmunks and gardening at the Grand Beach cottage. She loved the many annual visits to « The Beach » by her children and grandchildren.
Margaret took great pride in her service to the community, first as a visiting Victorian Order Nurse and later on the teams that developed and implemented St Boniface Hospital’s Home Care program, Palliative Care program and the establishment of Colostomy Care Club. She retired from the VON in1983 to join Dave in retirement.
Margaret developed many new friendships during her time at the Parkway Retirement Residence from 2016 to 2025. As always, she had to have something to do and knitted many many toques that that were donated to new refugees arriving in Winnipeg. She was always capable and independent in her later years, managing her own banking affairs, following politics and world events, keeping track of family birthdays and solving endless word puzzles to « keep her sharp ». All of this on her iPad, which was always at hand.
At Margaret’s request there will not be a funeral. At a future date her ashes will be spread in the The Garden of Memories at Neil Bardal’s alongside those of her husband Dave. Margaret always appreciated the very good work done by the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Women’s Shelter.
Margaret, Mum, Grandma, Grandma Marg was loved by all and will be so sorely missed.
Afterglow
I’d like the memory of me

Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days.
