Madonna Harriett Brinston
September 20, 1948 – February 17, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and an abundance of sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Sister-in-law, and Aunt Madonna Harriett (Collins) Brinston of North Harbour, Placentia Bay on February 17, 2025 at the age of 76. Passing peacefully and in the comfort of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Ena Collins of Fair Haven; parents-in-law George and Mae Brinston; brother-in-law Howard Brinston, sister-in-law Marie, and brother-in-law Ralph Lush. Left with a lifetime of love and cherished memories are her husband of 54 years, Eric: Son Craig (Maureen; Shelby and Matthew); Son, Scott (Josina Dunkel), grandchildren Nelson and Emmeline; brother, Bob Collins (Lily); Brothers-in-law, Ivan Brinston (Ethel); Charles Brinston; Sister-in-law Marcie Lush. Also leaving many nieces, nephews, cousins, a large circle of friends, and her beautiful dog Felix.
Mom was born and raised in Fair Haven before eventually settling with the love of her life, Eric, in North Harbour, Placentia Bay. Here she raised her sons, was an active member of the United Church, and enjoyed attending services and related activities in North Harbour and the surrounding area. She was a lifelong member of the UCW and loved planning activities and church events. Mom was well known for her famous potato salad, homemade bread, and especially her fishcakes. Mom most of all enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, specifically celebrating birthdays with her group of friends she referred to as the Golden Girls.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and professionalism of Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island. In keeping with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place, with a service to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honour of Mom’s beloved shelties, Duffy, Mindy, and Felix to the SPCA, Clarenville.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of the third floor east of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home for their five star treatment of Mom and to Rev. Oliver Dingwell of the United Church of Cowan Heights for his frequent visits and prayers with her.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
