Obituary
Peacefully passed away, with her loving family by her side at Ian Anderson House in Oakville. She is survived by her husband Stewart, and sons Steven (Mia) and Jeffrey (Kelly), her granddaughters Sasha, Tijana, Jennah, Khephren, Peyton and Brooklyn, and grandson Ty. Loving sister to Patricia (Bob), Valerie (Bart) and Bill (Linda).
Lorraine was born and raised in Riverdale, Toronto. She met her husband Stewart on a blind date and in 1964 married in Leaside. In 1976, the family moved to Baie d’Urfe, a small town west of Montreal. The family attended St. Georges Anglican Church where they made many life long friends. While there, Stewart & Lorraine became close friends with three couples who jokingly called themselves The Crazy Eights. The group would embark on many adventures and would travel together frequently. In 1983, the family migrated back to Ontario (Oakville) where Lorraine and Stewart forever resided.
Lorraine was a woman of undeniable and unwavering faith and a dedicated member at every church she attended. Throughout the years she founded a youth group and church papers at St. Cuthbert’s and St. Bride’s. Her dedication extended beyond her local churches, as she served as a past member of the national Anglican Essentials Canada elective and the Canadian Anglican Cursillo Secretariat. Lorraine’s faith was the foundation of her life and her contributions will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Initially a cat person, Lorraine’s heart grew even fonder of dogs when Tasha (dog) came to stay with her family in Oakville. The bond between them was immediate, and soon, they became inseparable.
Lorraine was known for her strong work ethic and sharp intelligence. Early in her career, she worked for both Bell and the Bank of Commerce. In an era when glass ceilings limited women’s advancement, she was offered management positions at both companies but chose to decline in order to raise her sons. Later in life, she returned to work on her own terms, enjoying it at her leisure.
Family and friends meant the world to Lorraine. She was social, fun-loving, and loved hosting gatherings. Whether it was a birthday toast or a casual celebration, Lorraine was skilled at crafting poems, speeches, or limericks on the spot, adding a special touch to every occasion. She would often burst into a few lines of song, no matter the situation, spreading joy wherever she went.
Travel was another great passion of hers, from day trips around Ontario to exploring Europe, Las Vegas, and cruising the open seas. Her first international trip with a close friend in her twenties was something she cherished, a memory of adventure and independence she was immensely proud of.
A lover of the arts, Lorraine found joy in reading, painting, music (with Johnny Mathis being her favorite), and British TV shows. She truly appreciated the things that brought her joy and shared that with the people she loved.
Visitation will be held on Monday March 24, 2025 at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street) from 2 pm – 4 pm and 7 pm – 9 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at the Church of St Bride (Anglican) 1516 Clarkson Road North, Mississauga at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Ian Anderson House hospice. Her family wish to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at IAH as they made her short stay there as comforting as can be.
