Lorna Lorraine Ward
1928-2025
Lorna Lorraine Ward, 96, of Edgett’s Landing, peacefully went
to be with her Lord and Saviour on January 19, 2025, at Moncton
Hospital, with her loving family by her side.
Lorna was born in Massachusetts, USA, the daughter of the
late Clifford and Velma (Simpson) Steeves. At the age of one,
Lorna’s family moved back to Canada, settling in Edgett’s
Landing in 1929. She grew up there and graduated from Hillsborough
High School. After high school, Lorna began working with the T. Eaton
Company, before moving to Connecticut to be with her future husband,
Bill. The couple married, and Lorna worked in the office of a magazine
distributor. Later, they returned to Canada and, together, built the
Holiday Motel in Berry’s Mills, New Brunswick. After selling
the motel, they returned to Edgett’s Landing, where they
built their home across from Lorna’s family
homestead.
Family was of utmost importance to Lorna. As the oldest of 12
children, Lorna took on a nurturing role within the family, offering
wisdom and love. Although she and Bill never had children of their
own, Lorna was a devoted and special aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Each of them shared a unique and cherished relationship with her. She
loved family gatherings and looked forward to reunions. Her last
Christmas was filled with joy, laughter, and memories; particularly
during the Boxing Day get-together and the Steeves Swap, which brought
her great happiness.
Lorna was a woman of deep faith, and her life was a testament
to her Christian values. Together with Bill, they were known for their
steadfast faith and dedication to helping youth. They were active
members of Albert Mines Baptist Church for many years, and later Lorna
attended Surrey Valley Baptist Church, where she continued to worship
with her sisters.
Lorna lived by the values she was taught—putting
God first, followed by her family. Her gentle spirit, unwavering
faith, and warm smile will be deeply missed but will forever remain in
the hearts of her family and friends. She now walks the streets of
gold, hearing the words, « Well done, my good and faithful
servant. »
Lorna felt incredibly blessed by the love and care of her
family, who made sure she was always well-cared for. When she returned
home from her final hospital stay, she lived with her sister Calva, as
she was no longer able to be alone. She was deeply grateful for the
support and companionship of all her family during this
time.
Lorna is survived by her sisters, Doreen Allen of
Edgett’s Landing, Calva Steeves (Jerome) of Hillsborough,
and Carol Steeves (Willis) of Lower Cape; her brothers, Charles
Steeves (Donna) of Mississauga, ON, and Gary Steeves (Heather) of
Hillsborough; and her brother-in-law, Richard Pollock of The Jordan
Lifecare Center. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews,
church family, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Lorna was predeceased by her
beloved husband, William « Bill » Ward, in 2015; her infant
brother, Simon Peter; brothers Lynn, Leonard (Mavis); sisters Jean
Steeves, Joan Pollock, and Marjorie Collier (Neil); and
brother-in-law, Sherman Allen.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to all
the caregivers who treated Lorna with such love and care. It
will never be forgotten.
The Funeral will be held at the Surrey Valley
Baptist Church on Saturday, January 25th, 2025 at 2:00pm with
Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. The service will be live
streamed through the Surrey Valley Baptist Church facebook
page. There will be a time of visitation on Saturday an hour
prior to the service from 1:00pm-2:00pm at the church. Interment will
be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Edgett’s Landing at a later
date. The family will be meeting with relatives and friends
for further fellowship and sharing of memories and for refreshments
following the service in the church Fellowship Center.
Donations to the Surrey Valley Baptist Church, Albert Mines
Baptist Church or Green Hill Cemetery- Paving Fund would be greatly
appreciated by the family.
Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral
Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, NB, E4H-3K2 506
