Higgins, Lorimer Marlowe – 1957-2025. Lori “Jr” left us far too soon on February 23, 2025 peacefully at home in Dartmouth. Lori was the first born of the Higgins boys to Lillian Doucette and Lorimer Higgins Sr.
Lori wore many hats throughout his life, from the oil fields of Alberta to working at Kent Homes in the east coast where he got his carpentry license. Lori finished his career working in the mental health sector helping many souls throughout the years which he found very fulfilling. If you asked him, he would have said being a father was his favourite job. He was loving, supportive and silly, he adored his kids and was their biggest cheerleader and always up for an adventure together. His heart was never quite the same after losing his only son his best friend, Shaymus. We all take comfort in knowing they are reunited again along with their numerous furry friends.
Lori was an extremely talented and creative soul, a fantastic carpenter who made many beautiful things over the years. He was very proud of his cabin in the woods and loved spending time there whether alone or with the boys.
Lori was also a talented painter, poet and even dabbled with guitar and drums. He was a sensitive soul who wore his heart on his sleeve and enjoyed making art for his loved ones. Lori also enjoyed time on the road whether it be on his beloved Harley or an impromptu road trip. He especially loved his travels to Cape Breton with Sheila and enjoyed time with her family. He never said no to a good yard sale or a cold beer. Lori’s final years were quite hard but he still kept his sense of humour, and he was lucky to have Sheila and his sister-in-law, Kathy to support him and keep him laughing. Visits with Marg and Liz kept his spirits up and he was grateful for the kids visits and was known to give up his bed if they wanted to have a sleepover.
Left to mourn his loss is his cherished partner, Sheila (Bagnell). He was so grateful for her unconditional love and companionship. He is also survived by daughter, Melissa (Paul); stepdaughter, Tamara (Shawn); grandkids, Scarlett and Wyatt; brothers, Paul (Bev), Gary (Darlene “Lovie”), Jeffrey; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and special cousins.
Lori was predeceased by his parents and son, Shaymus.
As per Lori’s wishes there will be no funeral however he did insist we raise a glass and eat an egg salad sandwich in his honour.
Please join us at The Royal Air Force Club, 22 Cottage Street, Truro on Saturday, March 22, from 2 – 4 p.m.
The family would like to thank everyone for their care over the years especially Dr. Trites and their team.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a local animal rescue or CMHA Halifax Dartmouth Branch or buy someone in need a meal. That’s what dad would have done.
