Linda Windle Obituary
Linda Mary Windle passed away peacefully in Toronto on February 27, 2025 with her family at her side. She fought a courageous battle with ovarian cancer for a year and a half. She was born in Renfrew, Ontario on December 5, 1962, as the 7th of 8 children to devoted parents Eileen and John “Jackie” Windle. A family person, Linda grew up spending fond times with her friends, siblings, and many cousins. After graduating from St. Joseph’s High School, Linda attended University of Waterloo and earned her Bachelor of Mathematics and Computer Science. Linda’s work took her across the country to Yellowknife, NWT, Manitouwadge, ON, and eventually Toronto where she met her future husband and love of her life, Mike. Linda steadily progressed in the computer/finance sector and was consistently recognized for her strong work ethic and quiet confidence. Linda returned to school to complete her Master’s in Business Administration at Queen’s University and completed an exchange in Belgium. Eventually settling down in Toronto, Mike and Linda welcomed children Adam and Hannah. Linda was a nurturing mother who spent countless weekends cheering on her son in sports and never missing any of her daughter’s dramatic and musical performances. Her children were her proudest accomplishment. In her free time Linda enjoyed reading, going on walks while listening to CBC radio, kayaking, and spending time at the cottage. With a heart for giving, Linda volunteered her time to many valued causes including teaching English to refugees and tutoring elementary school children. Linda will be well remembered for her boundless generosity and kindness to others. After her many travel adventures, Linda found herself longing to live near her siblings once again. So, in 2022 she and Mike headed to the Valley, establishing a new home in Calabogie.
Linda will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 29 years, Mike Somerville; children, Adam and Hannah Somerville; siblings: Gail (Harold Murphy), Paddy (Chris Romanko), Brenda, John (Heather Shaw), Kevin (Anne Margaret), Sheila (Dan Laurin); as well as numerous relatives and friends. Predeceased by her parents John and Eileen Windle, sister Marlene, and brother-in-law Keith MacLean.
Visitation will be held at the Goulet Funeral Home, 310 Argyle St, S Renfrew on Monday March 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Mount St. Patrick on Tuesday March 4th at 10:30 am. Spring interment parish cemetery. For those not able to attend Linda’s services in person, a recording of the Funeral Mass will be placed on the website by 4 pm on Tuesday. Donations in memory of Linda may be made to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital or Renfrew Food Bank.
