It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Laurie Raymond Everett, age 91, of Collingwood, Ontario, who passed away peacefully at Campbell House Hospice on December 29, 2024. The family is profoundly grateful for the exceptional care Laurie received during his final days.
Born in 1933 in Digby, Nova Scotia, Laurie moved to Ontario at the age of 18. He led a full and rewarding life, creating lasting memories for his family. A very hard worker, his career spanned construction, mechanics, and board insulation production, but it was his role as a janitorial custodian that he cherished most. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, Laurie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley; his son, David; and his grandson, Jordan Jamieson.
Laurie leaves behind his cherished children: Elaine (Bob Miller) Williams, Marilyn (Rob) McKay, Sandra Jamieson, Timothy (Marlene) Everett, and Susan (Peter) Mueller. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Mathew and Jennifer Williams, Amanda (Marco) Pacheo, Leanne Everett, Stephen (Kelly) Furnival, Jenna Rae (Keith) Roy, Nathan Furnival, Oliver (Sumika) Furnival, Eric, Miranda, Maya Mueller, and Emma Everett, and his great-grandchildren: Jason and Anthony Pacheo, Luke, Kolby, and Lily Furnival, Keaton and Calleigh Roy, and Ryder Jamieson. Additionally, he is survived by many nieces and nephews, who thought very highly of him.
Laurie was a skilled woodworker who took great joy in creating pieces that brought happiness to others. He also took immense pride in the home he built in Novar, Ontario, which he considered his greatest achievement. This home remains a lasting symbol of his craftsmanship, hard work, and determination.
When not in his workshop, Laurie enjoyed many hikes and walks, which brought him both joy and good health. He continued to walk right up to the end. Laurie also enjoyed doing word searches and playing solitaire—activities that provided him with peace and quiet enjoyment. He had a fondness for Werther’s candies, a sweet treat that always brought a big thank-you from those who brought them to him.
Laurie was known for his few words and his dry, witty sense of humor. He was a constant source of quiet strength and led by example. His family takes comfort in the many fond memories they share with him, knowing his spirit will live on in their hearts.
A celebration of life will take place in the spring. Details will be shared closer to the date.
Laurie will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
