Laura Grace Brankovich Obituary
Laura Baty Brankovich was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on May 10, 1955, as the eldest of 4 children.
Laura and Dragan met as students at the University of Manitoba and were married for 38 years. They were fortunate enough to have enjoyed a life filled with many wonderful experiences and happy memories. Job opportunities took the couple to P.E.I., before moving to Calgary in 1989. Although Laura never had any children of her own, she was a devoted aunt to her nieces. Laura took great delight in celebrating each of them as they have grown.
Laura was a true friend, a devoted wife and a guide. As someone who was not afraid to challenge other people’s views, she often offered a unique perspective that forced one to stop and take note. Her resourcefulness, readiness to help, wisdom, and the ability to listen were her major strengths. She made numerous contributions to many communities, gave a voice to thousands of people and served on several community boards. Because of that, Laura was respected as an expert in the areas of Community Development and Social Planning.
Laura lived life with passion and had many interests. After her retirement, this continued at full tilt! Laura visited many parts of the world most often accompanied by Dragan. She spent months in Italy, honing her ability to speak the language and immersing herself in the Italian culture. Laura loved history, especially art history, enjoyed being creative, and learning the art of beadwork. She was a voracious reader, an avid gardener, enjoyed cooking and entertaining her friends.
She was also a Christmas queen embarking on annual Christmas craft projects and scouring local Christmas markets at home and abroad.
Our dear Laura passed away on March 1, 2025, after a long struggle with cancer. Laura is predeceased by her father David and survived by her husband Dragan, mother Jean, sister Dianna, brothers Bob and Ernie, nieces Chambrie (Tomas), Deca, Breanne (Skyler), Denna, Chantal, Layla, Jacqueline and Katarina, cousins Corinne (Peter) and Alanna (Mark), the in-laws Senka and Miki (Violeta), and members of her extended family.
