Obituary of Kenneth Chambers
Kenneth « Ken » Chambers of Vankleek Hill passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 26th, 2025, at the age of 70.
Ken was a devoted father to Jennifer (Dave) and Emily (Norm), and a proud “Poppy” to Lyla, Kye, Hayden, Beckett, Rhys, and Willow. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and nothing brought him more joy than being surrounded by their laughter and energy. Christmas Day was one of his favorite times of the year—a day filled with magic, excitement, and the warmth of family all together. But no matter the season, he was their biggest fan, cheering them on at every milestone, game, and event. He was a Maple Leaf’s fan, but an even bigger Kye Anderson hockey fan sharing a love of hockey with his first grandson, never missing an opportunity to sit rink-side at his game.
Ken had a deep love for the simple joys of life. He was a familiar face at the Lachute Flea Market and surrounding farmers’ markets, where he could always be found hunting for the best local produce and indulging in his favorite raspberry pies. Ken would never pass up an opportunity to share a bowl of wonton soup and a fortune cookie at the Chinese buffet with his family, a tradition passed on from his father-in-law. A phenomenal cook, he believed that food brought people together, and his kitchen was always full of love. His bacon buns, breakfast westerns, chocolate chip cookies, and famous Poppy spaghetti sauce were family treasures, enjoyed all year through. But perhaps most legendary were his homemade birthday cakes—rich chocolate with jam in the middle—eagerly awaited by his grandkids as their birthdays approached.
Ken had a passion for classic cars and was immensely proud of his Dodge Dart, which he could often be seen cruising through town in, windows down, music playing—his playlist a mix of bluegrass, classic rock, and everything in between. His love for the outdoors was just as strong, and some of his happiest days were spent by the lake, fishing rod in hand. Camping and fishing trips with family were cherished traditions, filled with stories, laughter, and a deep appreciation for nature. Nothing pleased him more than to teach his granddaughter how to ice fish. He passed on his knowledge of picking just the right spot, choosing the perfect minnows to bait the lines, keeping the holes “frozé” free and, most importantly, always having an abundance of snacks on hand.
He was the dear brother of the late Linda, John, Barbara, and Nancy, and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him for his warmth, generosity, and ever-present sense of humor. Ken had a way of making everyone feel welcome, whether it was through a friendly chat, a home-cooked meal, or simply by being there when you needed him most.
As per Ken’s wishes, a private service will be held to celebrate his life.
For those who wish, donations to the Heart Institute of Ottawa would be appreciated.
A Tree of Remembrance in memory of Ken will be planted in the McAlpine Forever Forest in Vankleek Hill—a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much love to the world.
