In the early morning of February 11, 2025, Keith Fice, 85, entered into his final snooze (although he will not be impressed it did not occur in his favourite recliner!) Born on December 15, 1939, in Bowmanville, Ontario, Keith lived a full life, leaving behind cherished memories for those who knew him.
After a few odd jobs, Keith dedicated 25 years to Winfield Farms, where he worked as a night watchman. Farming was not only his career, it was the root of him; it was his way of life. His wife always wondered how he ended up working on a horse farm when he lacked a fondness for horses. But whether tending to the land or sharing stories about his experiences, Keith found fulfillment in the simplicity of rural life.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Keith is deeply missed by his wife of 60 years Susan (nee Whitney); daughters Jennifer, Jackie (Michael), and Janine (Mark); and grandchildren Jakob, Noah, and Iylah. He is also remembered by his siblings Donna (late Fred Dart), Marilyn (George Cochrane), and Doug (late Judy, late Mary Trimmer). Keith was predeceased by his parents, Nelson and Mae.
Keith had a spirited personality that shone through in many ways. He was known for yelling at the television during sporting events with an enthusiasm that could rival any commentator. He loved racing – spending time at the track alongside his lifelong friend Murray Flett, where his brother Doug could be found wrecking the cars, and Keith and Murray then fixing them.
Touring the countryside was one of his favorite pastimes—especially when it involved stopping for ice cream, burgers or chip truck fries (definitely with ketchup)! He also enjoyed taking his kids tobogganing, puttering around on his blue tractor, playing baseball – creating treasured memories filled with laughter and adventure. One thing Keith never warmed up to was snakes—his dislike for them was well-known among family and friends (always have a shovel with you when on a walk)!
Beyond his immediate family, Keith will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by his quiet warmth and humour.
A funeral service will be held on February 16, 2025, at 2:00pm at Mackey Funeral Home in Lindsay, Ontario, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay. Visitation will take place prior to the service, starting at noon, followed by a reception where loved ones can gather to share memories.
Keith’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
On the drive down, his granddaughter Iylah summed it up best by saying « Grandpa isn’t here anymore, he’s relaxing »
