Joseph Corrigan Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the passing of Joseph F. Corrigan of Colinet, SMB. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 91 years. Dad passed away peacefully at Lion’s Manor Nursing Home in Placentia, surrounded by his loving family, eager to reunite with his beloved wife, Josie and their loyal dog, Jay-Jay.
Leaving to mourn with great sadness are his children: Joey (Margie), Ann-Marie (Ambrose), Donny (Wanda), Kenny (Debbie), Jo-Anne and Junior (Gloria). Also mourning his loss are his grandchildren: Kayla (Billy), Ashley (Myles), Amy (Brett), Evan (Crystal), Kenny (Rebecca), Steve (Adrianna), Chelsea (Nick), Mitchell (Emily), Curtis, Nicole (Darrin) and Jamie (Lori) and 16 great-grandchildren, brothers: Len (Shirley), Gerard (Linda), and Harold (Joyce), sisters; Patsy (Paddy) and Gloria as well as numerous nieces and nephews, will also deeply miss him. Special people in his life include nieces; Tammie Corrigan and Bev Corrigan, nephew Abby Corrigan and sister-in-law, Gene Corrigan. Two close friends, Jim Bonia and Wes Jefferson, who were also important to him.
Joe was the eldest son of 18 children born to John and Alice Corrigan. At the age of 14, he left school to help his father support the family. He joined his father at the Argentia Base and worked in the mess hall. Joe was known as the youngest person ever to work at the US Army Base.
He continued to support his family while raising his own with his beloved Josie. Joe worked many jobs throughout his long life, truly embodying the phrase “a jack of all trades”. He wore many hats, including Maintenance Foreman on the oil rigs, Heavy Equipment Operator, Mechanic, Bus Owner, Businessman and more. His career took him from Greenland to Ontario and back home again.
Joe was most well-known for owning a gas station and garage in Colinet, which he operated with his wife for 47 years. What began as a takeout and games room in the early years eventually became a post office. Whether it was a late-night knock on their door, there was rarely a customer who was turned away.
There was no shortage of stories or friends made along the way. The name “Joe Corrigan” is known by many and is often met with a smile and a story to tell.
A special thank you to dad’s homecare worker and friend, Rena Porter, who spent the last three years with him. We also want to express our gratitude to the staff at Lion’s Manor in Placentia. Many of them had their own special connection with dad, whether it was old or new. We will be forever grateful for their kindness and compassion. They truly went above and beyond. Finally, we thank Father Josie for his service and prayers during dad’s final hours.
