Obituary
John James Wareham, aged 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, surrounded by family. Predeceased by his wife and soul mate of 60 years, Lise Wareham (née Dansereau), his parents, Charles and Margaret (née Clooney), and his dear brothers, Gerald (Stella Lacoursiere) and Charles. John will be greatly missed by his daughters Trish (Pete Kershaw), Brenda (Jacques Lepage), and Donna (Mark Pallotta), his grandchildren Josh (Alison), Alex (David), Jessie (Mat), Stephie, Nicole, and Ryan, and his great-grandchildren Arlo, Beatrix, and Johnny. He will be sincerely missed by his many friends, former colleagues, and extended family members.
John was born and raised in the Notre Dame de Grace area of Montréal before settling in the suburb of Beaconsfield, where he happily lived for over 40 years before relocating to Oakville, Ontario to be near his three daughters and grandchildren. A proud graduate of Sir George Williams (Concordia) and McGill Universities where he studied during the evening while working full-time, John started his career in the plumbing and heating industry in 1950. John’s extensive career spanned roles in wholesale with EMCO Ltd. and manufacturing with Giant Factories Inc., progressing from warehouseman to sales, regional management, and ultimately national sales executive management. He proudly semi-retired after 50+ years in the industry and after serving as Chair of the Board of the Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH).
John valued his career not only for its challenges and achievements but also for the diverse individuals he had the privilege of working with; many evolving into genuine friendships both locally and during his travels across North America. He took great pride in his Newfoundland and Montreal roots and was well-known for his storytelling, warm demeanor, sharp wit, and readiness to share a joke or two. As important as education and career were to John, his greatest treasure, joy, and source of pride was his family: his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. He encouraged their academic, career, family, and personal pursuits by offering guidance and support. John exemplified dedication, perseverance, resilience, and generosity of spirit and heart. In his later years, he enjoyed more leisurely activities such as spending time with family, traveling, reading newspapers, and always finding time to share a laugh with friends, both old and new. John will forever be in our hearts and is surely smiling when we say that we will see him later.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, ON from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service and reception will be held at the same location on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11 am.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers and nurses at AgeCare Brant and Chartwell Waterford where he spent his last two years. Donations in John’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
