It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing
of John Benedict MacNeill, who died peacefully at Moncton Hospital on
Sunday January 26, 2025, after a long
illness.
John enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with the
Department of Transport. He began as a flight instructor and later
worked as an air traffic controller from 1969 to 1978 in Gander,
Newfoundland. He eventually transitioned to operations and
investigations for Transport Canada in Ottawa until 1995. The final
years of his career were spent as a shift manager at the Moncton
Centre until his retirement in 2001.
John leaves behind his devoted wife of 55 years,
Emerise (née Leger); his children: John Jr. of Ottawa and
Nicole (Trevor Whitman) of Vancouver; and his cherished grandchildren:
Savannah, Charlee, and Ron.
John was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Anne
MacNeill, and his siblings, Elizabeth, Bernard, and Chuck. He will be
fondly remembered by his sisters, Carole and
Cely.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude
to the doctors and nurses in the Oncology Department at Moncton
Hospital, with special thanks to Dr. Samad (and his team) and Dr. Li
for their years of exemplary care and
compassion.
As per John’s wishes, there will be no
viewing. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor
his memory. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of
