Obituary
Gerber, Joan Susan (nee Carter), passed away peacefully with family by her side at Highview Residences in London ON, on Friday February 21st, 2025, at the age of 83. Predeceased by her husband Frank Gerber and son Tim Gerber. Lovingly remembered by her daughters Debbie Gerber and Wendy Williams and her husband Brent. Extremely proud grandmother of Nathan and Lauren.
Predeceased by her sister June and her brothers Edward, Harold, John, Milton, and Kenneth. `
Lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law Frieda Carter, Lucille Gerber, and Sharon and her husband James Lebold. Remembered by nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.
Born and raised in Kitchener Ontario, Joan took many years of piano lessons and spent 13 years singing in her church choir before meeting her husband, Frank. She quicky then learned what a farmer’s life was all about as the newlywed couple had their first farm outside of Milverton. As they started their family, Joan started cake decorating, birthday, anniversary and later on wedding cakes. Joan also excelled in oil painting and created several oil paintings which hung in the family home.
The family relocated to Shallow Lake in the late 70’s and that is where Joan’s gift shop called “The Curio Shoppe” was born. Started in the house it soon was moved to a store on the main street in Wiarton. After a couple years she sold it, but the store remained many years in the same location. Once the family moved back to a farm in Port Elgin a few years later, she was able to work on her large vegetable and flower gardens and pick your own strawberry patch with her husband. She was then the office manager of Gerber Sod Farms that her husband and son worked together in.
Joan enjoyed cooking, baking, the family cottage and being a part of her church family. Joan played keyboard alongside her husband who played violin in which they played hymns together. Her faith in Jesus Christ and her family were most important to her.
Joan moved to London shortly after her husband’s passing in which she was cared for by the amazing staff at Highview Residences and her two daughters and son in-law.
She is now home with the Lord and reunited with her husband Frank and son Tim. Joan’s beautiful smile will live on in our hearts forever.
Visitation at the Eagleson Funeral Home, Southampton on Friday February 28, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. A Funeral Service for Joan will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with visiting beginning at 10 a.m. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow at the funeral home. Spring interment at Southampton Cemetery.
