THOMPSON, James Ernest “Jim” – Passed away peacefully at his home, after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 with his loving family by his side at the age of 64.
Loving son of Irene “Bubbles” Thompson. Dear brother of Sandra Smith, and Lorri Burns and her husband Matt. Cherished uncle of Ashley Smith, Matthew Burns and his wife Jaylene, Dalton Burns, and Emily Burns. Predeceased by his father Lennard Thompson.
Jim was a graduate of Conestoga College in Waterloo, majoring in Retail Meat Cutting; as well as Georgetown College, majoring in Building Maintenance Mechanic and Wood Floor Installation. He became a flooring specialist and owned his own businesses, mainly in Guelph. Jim also worked as an addiction counsellor at Addictions and Community Services, working in a treatment centre for men who were addicted to drugs and alcohol. He also enjoyed other jobs including being a meat cutter in Dalhousie, New Brunswick, and a cook at Pike Lake for a few years. Up until this year, many may have seen Jim at their door delivering pizza. Jim made many friends throughout his life, and always enjoyed meeting new people.
Jim gave his heart to the Lord Jesus in his late 20’s and was a member of Parkview Church in Guelph.
A highlight in Jim’s life was two Caribbean Cruises in 2022 and 2023, thanks to his best friend, John Litwiller whom he travelled with. In Jim’s words, he had wonderful life and enjoyed most of it.
Visitation will be held at the England Funeral Home, 294 Main Street South, Mount Forest on Sunday, January 5th from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, January 6th at 11:00 a.m. Those unable to attend are asked to join the livestream by clicking the link below Jim’s obituary (link will be uploaded shortly). Spring interment in the Mount Forest Cemetery.
