Obituary of Jerry Clayton Third
Jerry Clayton Third, resident of Hythe, AB, formerly of Goodfare, AB, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025, in Hythe, at the age of 77 years.
Jerry was born on August 8, 1947, in Hythe to Clayton and Annie Third. He lived most of his life on the original family homestead in Goodfare. Jerry led a bit of a wildlife in his early years, and for that is known by many, who probably have a funny, interesting, and possibly inappropriate story to share.
Jerry had two daughters from his first marriage, Melany and Jay Lynn. He married again for a brief time, and then as they say the “Third” times a charm when he met and married Helen Chong on August 30, 1986. She was truly the love of his life, his soulmate, and the person who ultimately helped put him on a better path. In the late 90’s Jerry was surprised to find out he had a third daughter, Connie.
Jerry had a few occupations throughout his life. He worked in the Oilfield industry driving trucks and running equipment. He had his own company cleaning powerline right of ways, and he was a safety consultant. In his later years, he also did some hobby farming.
Jerry’s favourite hobby was fishing. Many of their vacations and travels were planned around a fishing trip. He tried for many years to get the grayling fish ladder back up and running in Beaverlodge. He also loved visiting with his neighbours and friends. Goodfare was always home to him. He always had a dog by his side, probably to blame for the trouble he would find himself in. He is already missed by his beloved dog Yuki.
Jerry and Helen lived on the farm until 2019, then moved into Hythe, where he still kept busy, never running out of projects to start.
Jerry will be sadly missed by his wife of 38 years Helen; daughters Connie (Owen) Lee, Melany (Tim) Burlock, and Jay Lynn (Sean) Maddicks; grandchildren Amber, Kirsten, Lauryn, Justin, Bailey, and Jake; great-grandchildren Ryder, Hadlee, Lucas, and Conrad; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Clayton and Annie Third, infant brothers Clifford and John, sister Pat Sponchia, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Joyce Third, nephew Barry Third, mother-in-law and father-in-law Theresa and Vincent Chong, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Monica and Desmond Chee, and brother-in-law Peter Chong.
Helen and the family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to Megan Newton and the staff of the Pearson Place care home in Hythe, for the wonderful care and attention Jerry received during his stay here.
A private graveside service for Jerry will be held at the Hythe Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choosing in Jerry’s memory if you wish to do so.
