It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of
Jeremy Roy Murray, at the age of 44, on January 10, 2025, in his home
in Trenton, Nova Scotia.
Jeremy was born on December 15, 1980, in New Glasgow, Nova
Scotia, to his loving parents, Donnie Murray and Helen (Cameron)
Roper. He was a cherished son, father, brother, uncle and friend,
known for his infectious laugh, kind heart, and fun-loving nature.
Jeremy grew up in Trenton, where his love for sports became apparent
early on. Whether it was hockey, baseball, or golf, Jeremy excelled at
everything he tried. He spent countless hours at the rink, ballfield,
and golf course, often representing his community proudly as a
« Trenton Rat. »
Jeremy’s athletic talents were evident during his
time playing for Trenton High School and the Pictou County Scotians,
where he was known not only for his natural skill but for his
leadership on and off the ice. His teammates and friends admired his
sense of humor, and he was always the one to bring joy and laughter to
any situation. Jeremy was the type of person who could lighten your
day, and after spending time with him, you’d walk away
smiling. He could often be found spending time with his chosen family
including, Jake Trenholm, Randy Mosher, Trevor Martin, and
« Bushie » (David) MacKinnon (Stephanie)—each of
whom Jeremy cherished deeply.
A true reflection of his big heart, Jeremy was always the
first to help anyone in need. Whether it was lending a hand to a
friend or offering encouragement to someone struggling, his generosity
and compassion were boundless. Following his passing, numerous stories
have emerged, illustrating the countless ways he touched the lives of
others.
In his early career, Jeremy worked as a salesman at Highland
Ford and Dale Motors Nissan before moving to Fort McMurray, where he
worked as a laborer for Bucyrus and later became a Heavy Equipment
Operator at Baffinland. While his work took him across the country,
Jeremy always longed to be home.
His greatest pride and joy was his son, Cameron, whom he
always referred to as his best friend. Jeremy’s legacy will
live on through Cameron. He adored Cameron more than anything. Jeremy
was a proud father and couldn’t wait to spend time with Cam,
teaching him the sport of hockey, which they both loved and, recently,
the proudest dad moment he had was watching Cam play his first game of
hockey with his school team, Frank H. Academy. Being part of a team
has shaped much of Jeremy’s life. Witnessing Cam
experiencing support from teammates filled him with pride. He strived
for Cameron to grow up surrounded by love, laughter, and adventure.
Their bond was a testament to his unwavering dedication as a
father.
Jeremy is survived by his son, Cameron Murray, and his
partner, Ashley Tibbo, along with Noah, Brea, and Demi of Stellarton.
He is also survived by his siblings: Bobby (Sheri) Roper of Trenton,
Angie (Chris) Campbell of Westville, and Tracy Murray of Trenton; as
well as his nieces and nephews: Jacob Roper (Jenna Rorison) of
Abercrombie, Nathan and Lauren Roper of Trenton, Chace and Callie
Campbell of Westville, and Oliver White (Father Alfie White) of
Westville. Jeremy is also survived by his uncle, Walter Cameron of
Chance Harbour and his aunt, Priscilla Phalen of Springhill, and
numerous cousins.
Jeremy was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Bruce
and Alice Cameron, and paternal grandparents, Don Murray and Jean
Fraser, as well as his aunt, Sandra MacMillan and uncles, Duncan, Art,
and George Cameron.
Visitation will take place 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday, January
15, at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New
Glasgow.
A memorial service to celebrate Jeremy’s life will
be held at 1pm Thursday, January 16, 2025 at R.H. Porter Funeral Home,
New Glasgow. The service will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson
with honorary pallbearers, Bushie (David) MacKinnon, Jake Trenholm,
Randy Mosher, Trevor Martin, Mallory McNeil, Joey MacDonald, Jimmy
Lindblad, Andy Martell.
A reception will follow at the New Glasgow Bombers Club. The
interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery following the memorial
service, where Jeremy will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to
a trust setup for Jeremy’s son, Cameron.
Arrangements are being handled by R.H Porter Funeral Home,
New Glasgow.
Jeremy’s life was truly one of making people laugh,
lifting spirits, and living to the fullest. He cherished gatherings of
all sorts, and any individual or person was openly welcomed into his
circle of friends, whom many over time, naturally became chosen
family. Jeremy has often shared, when needed, he drew strength from
his son Cameron, his fur pal Bauer, the gang including his mom at
« The Bingo Barn » and the one individual that had his back
without a doubt, Ashley.
As described by lifelong friend (Jake Trenholm), « He was
one of the most social guys in Pictou County by far…that
little bugger could impressively flirt, playfully annoy, and generally
motivate to create a positive reaction. »
