Obituary of Jeanette Marshall Baxter Arsenault
The family of Jeanette Arsenault sadly announces she passed away on February 10th, 2025, in Fredericton New Brunswick. She was born on June 3, 1943, to William and Ann Drummond, in Torryburn, Scotland. Jeanette died in hospital in Fredericton, after a brief illness. (Acute Leukemia).
Jeanette was born in Scotland; her mother ran a fish and chip shop, and her father was a coal miner. At the age of 14, Jeanette emigrated with her family to Canada, and they settled in Galt, Ontario. They travelled across the Atlantic in the RMS Sylvania. When Jeanette was in her early 20’s, she travelled out west for work. While she was in Calgary, she met Dennis, a young soldier from PEI who was stationed there. A few years later, after their marriage in 1965, they were posted with the Canadian Armed Forces to Germany, where the first of their three daughters was born.
Jeanette loved her family and her home. She enjoyed travel, and both travelled and moved with her Dennis and their family between Germany and Canada several times. Together they spent time on PEI, they travelled throughout Europe, and they visited family in Ontario. Jeanette’s daughters grew up and travelled a great deal, living in Europe, Ontario, and in many other places around the world, like Kuwait and Japan, where Jeanette enjoyed travelling to visit. Jeanette and Dennis had a trailer and a lot at Twin Shores, PEI. Her daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren came to visit in the summers, holding the family well-knit together for fun and joy.
Over the years, Jeanette worked in many different administrative jobs. She was for many years a teller at the Bank of Nova Scotia, and worked at PTL in Oromocto, in shipping and receiving. It must also be mentioned that she had a great sense of fashion and was very a well-dressed woman with an excellent wardrobe.
She had some great relationships with her friends; enjoying regular lunches and outings with different groups from work and from military events. She was herself a very good friend, and has supported people through cancer, operations and divorces, and been there at their side through it all. She supported her children through difficult times. She was a good strong, caring woman. She did lovely embroidery too.
Jeanette has had several dogs, and they have been long-term loves in her life. Sandy was her first dog with the family, followed by Trixie. Once her children had grown, she had her beloved Kayla and Mindy, and just now her sweet Shadow. She has been an active and passionate dog owner and has opened her heart to her dogs throughout the years.
We will miss Jeanette sadly and sorely. We will miss her as our wife and mother, our sister, as our Gran and as our friend. She will be especially missed by her husband, Dennis; children, Nicole, Ann, and Trina; grandchildren, Jack, Flora, Lauren, William and Noel; sister, Janice; son-in-law, Roger; niece, Yvonne; her family in PEI, and her nieces, nephews and sister-in-law in Ontario. She will be missed by her friends here and across the country, and in particular by Jackie and Doreen. Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, William and Ann Drummond, and her brothers, Billy and Millar.
We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for the kind and lovely care of Jeanette in the time of her terrible, unrelenting illness. The care Jeanette received was excellent and compassionate. The care extended to those of us at the hospital with Jeanette, helping us understand what was happing and answering all our questions with patience and kindness, and offering us much compassion through those difficult days, was greatly appreciated.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, beginning at 2 pm, with Rev. Greg Geldart officiating. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Oromocto SPCA or a charity of the donor’s choice.
