Jeanette (Jean) passed away peacefully at the Barrie Manor on Saturday, May 10th, 2025 at the age of 103.
Cherished mother of Nancy, Grandmother of Nicole, Alan, Jason and John, Great-Grandmother of Daniel, CJ, Alley, Ethan and Austin. Predeceased by her parents Harry and Emily Brady. Sister Eva (Clifford), Brother Tom (Eleanor), Husbands John Cox and William Hargrave and Son Edward. She will be missed by many extended family and friends. She was well cared for and loved by the staff at Barrie Manor.
Jean was born on the 2nd day of May,1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She moved with her family from Manitoba to Quebec and then Ontario, Jean met and married John Cox in 1948 in Kirkland Lake. After the death of her husband John in 1967, she went to Teacher’s College in North Bay, graduated then moved with her son and daughter to Belleville where she taught at the School for the Deaf. In 1980 she married a long-time friend William Hargrave. Jean retired and moved with Wiiliam to the Shuswap Lake Estates in B.C. In 1994 when she was once again widowed Jean moved back to Ontario to be close to family.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and became very involved with the United Church Women’s League. She enjoyed reading, gardening, golfing, cross country skiing and travelling with friends.
Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.
