Jean Zacharias Obituary
September 12, 1949 – January 26, 2025
75 years
Ella Naomi Jean Smith (or Jean Zacharias) was born September 12, 1949. Jean grew up on the family farm just outside of the tiny town of Senlac, SK, with her father Rod, her mother Noni, and her brothers Rod and Doug. She grew up farming with her family, going to school with her friends, and teaming up with her brothers and friends getting into all sort of mischief. She fondly remembers the sleigh rides into school on those snowy, winter mornings. She often talked about the different cars that her brothers acquired, and which ones she thought were cool, and which ones were junk.
After graduating from Grade 12, she moved to Saskatoon to become a nurse. Soon after completing her nursing course, she moved to Calgary, where she unexpectedly but happily became a mother to her son, Jason. Not long after Jason was born, she moved back to Senlac to be closer to her parents for a short time before moving to Martensville. Jean and Jason lived together in Martensville for a few years, during which Jean was fortunate enough to make her dad’s dream of going back home to England a reality. In what would be a highlight of her life, she was able to spend a holiday with her father, mother and son where her father had been born.
In the early 1980’s, Jean met her husband Pete and his son Gerald, and daughter Wendy in Blumenthal. As the years went by, Jean continued in her passion for photography. Almost to a fault, the camera went with her everywhere. Because of that, her family was able to obtain countless memories to look back on. The camera followed her everywhere, whether it be sporting events, stock races, any type of competition or show, and every holiday to capture her most prideful moments. Some of her favorite moments were spent watching her grandchildren throughout their various endeavors, especially football and dance. She spent her twilight years having coffee with old friends and family and building new friendships through puzzling with neighbors.
Jean is survived by her: son Jason; his children, Damon and Danica; stepson Gerald (and Deb), and their children Brittni (Mike, and their son Asher), Richard (Leanne and their daughter Andy), and Melissa; step-daughter Wendy (and Trev) and her daughter Morgan; brothers Rod and Doug (Linda) and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her: father, Rod Smith; mother, Noni Smith; her husband, Peter Zacharias; and many other loved ones throughout the years.
