Jean Herman Obituary
Jean Elaine Herman, age 87, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on February 20, 2025. Born in Ellice Township, she was the beloved wife of the late Wilbert Herman, a devoted mother of five beautiful children, and a proud grandmother of six.
Jean was a hardworking farmer and entrepreneur who managed several businesses throughout her life. She was deeply committed to her community, an active member of the Sebringville United Church, and always ready to help family, friends, and neighbours.
Jean had a zest for life, enjoying softball, bowling, bingo, and crokinole with loved ones. She treasured family gatherings, especially hosting Sunday meals after church, where her home was filled with love and laughter.
Jean inspired others with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Her dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Wilbert Herman; sons, Larry and Paul; and sister, Joyce Baumbach; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bruce Baumbach, David Allen, Florence (Tony) Wiggins, Gladys (John) Eidt, Vera (Chester) Lewis, John Czarny, Ralph (Mary) Herman; as well as nephews who passed away before her.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Allan) Moore, Deb (Frank) Herr, and Sandy (Steve) MacMillan. She was a loving grandmother to Emily (Luka), Megan (Josh), Melissa, Kelan (Karen), Michelle (Viresh), and Michael (Alyssa); and a great-grandmother to Cooper, Rockwell, and Russell. Jean is also survived by her sister, Fern Allen; brother, Mervyn Knechtel (Sheila); sister-in-law, Wilma Czarny; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at McCarthy Place for their kindness, care, and support over the past three years, as well as the accommodating and compassionate staff at Stratford General Hospital for their exceptional care in Jean’s final days.
A private family interment will be held at Sebringville Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jean’s life at the Arden Park Hotel, 552 Ontario Street, Stratford, on April 19th from 2-4 p.m. Memorial donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Stratford General Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
