Janice Audella Matthews
1950-2025
With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to Janice Audella Matthews
(Tucker) a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who lived her
life with strength, love, and quiet devotion. She passed peacefully,
surrounded by her family, leaving behind a life full of deep-rooted
love and unwavering dedication.
Jan was born and raised in
L’Etete, New Brunswick, the daughter of Burpee and Marjorie
Tucker (Leavitt). She grew up as a true country girl, the daughter of
a fisherman and a mother who cared for their family. She was one of
many siblings in a big, close-knit home, where hard work, love, and
resilience were woven into everyday life. She is the sister of
brothers Rudy (Irene), Phil (Nancy), Roger (Barb), Ricky (Zelda),
Teddy (Linda) and her sisters Diane (Glen) and Beverly (Kevin), sister
in-law Marlene/ Nancy Matthews. She was predeceased by her sister
Allison, who passed just months before her, and her husband Dave
Haddon.
Jan met Terry Herbert Matthews, the love of her
life, and together they built their home in Lepreau’s
Gilmore Subdivision, where they raised their family. They were married
for 50 years and spent 56 years together, creating a life full of
love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. She was a devoted mother
and grandmother to loving daughter Amy McVicer (Matthews) of
Pennfield, her husband Aaron, and their children Ayden McVicer and
Desiree Brown. Cherished Son Eric Matthews of Maces Bay, his
wife Holly Waycott-Matthews, and his son Carter Brewer. Loving
daughter Abby Matthews of Lepreau, her loving partner Ryan Adams, and
daughters Isla Mitchell and Danica Adams. She cherished her many
nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, always offering her
warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support. She built lasting connections
with those around her, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and
cherished memories that will be carried forward by all who were lucky
enough to know her.
She loved watching hockey, never
missing a game, whether it was on TV or in person, cheering for her
kids and grandkids. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and Jan
never missed a game, a moment, or a milestone. Whether it was watching
her son play hockey in his younger years or cheering on her grandkids,
she was always there, in the sideline or stands, rain or shine. Even
in the last months of her life, she made it to Isla’s
baseball games, proving that her love and support never wavered.
But Jan and Terry believed that life should be bigger than
just what was outside the front door. They made sure to fill their
children’s lives with adventure, taking them on road trips,
ski trips, and travels throughout the county and across the
U.S.,creating memories that would last a lifetime. And as
grandparents, they did the same, always ensuring their grandchildren
had the chance to see, experience, and explore the world beyond their
small community.
Jan had a lifelong career as a nurse,
dedicating herself to caring for others. She also ran a Kindergarten
where she nurtured and loved children from the community, treating
them as her own. She was a woman of quiet strength, a little tough on
the outside but fiercely loving once you knew her. If you were lucky
enough to break through her shell, you knew she cared for you deeply
and wished only the best for your soul.
She found peace in
her garden and the outdoors, spending countless hours tending to the
things she grew. That love of nature and simple joys was something she
passed down to her children, who all carry that same appreciation with
them. She was a woman of faith, God and the world he created, though
she was never afraid to ask deeper questions about what she did not
understand. She loved fiercely and lived simply, but everything she
did, she did with her whole heart.
She loved pottery,
collecting countless pieces from her travels, each one holding a
special story. It was a passion that reflected her appreciation for
craftsmanship and beauty. In a tribute to this love, she will be laid
to rest in a handcrafted pottery piece, created with care by her
husband and children, a final resting place as unique and cherished as
she was.
Jan battled lupus for years with incredible
strength, never letting it take away the joys of her life. In her
final year, her health declined, but she fought with everything she
had to hold on for her family. When the time came, she was at peace,
ready to be with God.
Yesterday, her family gathered to
prepare her for her last journey, a beautiful moment not all are
fortunate enough to be a part of, proving just how much of a matriarch
she was. She left this world surrounded by love, adorned in flowers,
music, and laughter, just as she would have wanted. She was sent off
with hugs, tears, and the song of Maggie May, embraced by all who
loved her.
She left this earth with grace and gained her
wings, but she will never truly be gone. She will always be with us,
in the garden, in the stands, on the road to the next adventure, and
we’ll be looking for her signs
A celebration of
life will be held in Jan’s honor in the near future, with
details to be announced. All who loved Jan are welcome to join us in
sharing memories, stories, and love as we come together to celebrate
the beautiful life she lived.
Rest peacefully in Jesus’
arms.
Loved always Jan.
For
Jan
A heart so strong, a love so true,
A life
well-lived in skies so blue.
A country girl with hands in
earth,
Who knew the beauty of life’s worth.
She built a home with steady grace,
A warm embrace, a
loving space.
Through road trips far and nights so
bright,
She filled her world with love and light.
She cheered the games, she held the hands,
She
nurtured hearts, she took her stand.
With quiet strength,
with fierce embrace,
She loved her own in time and
space.
Though lupus tried to steal her years,
She met it strong, she fought through tears.
And when
her time on earth was done,
She rose with peace to meet the
Son.
Now flowers bloom where she once stood,
Her
laughter lingers in the woods.
Her love still hums in waves
and sky,
She’s never
gone…she’s standing by.
Rest
peacefully in Jesus’ arms,
Forever held, forever
warm.
We’ll look for signs, we’ll find
our way,
For you are with us, day by day.
