Janet Hansen Obituary
Hansen – Janet Ann (nee Eden) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Janet Ann Hansen, in her 91st year, surrounded by her children on Saturday August 9, 2025. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Bill Hansen, Diane (Billy) Lance-Fearon and Jim (Barb) Hansen, her grandchildren Shelley (Mike) Law, Donald (Amy) Lance, Michael (Aasia) Lance, Marnie (Jon) Bailey, Joshua Hansen, Noah Hansen and great grandchildren Emily, Marissa, Shanley, Destinie, Ihsaan, Ziyaan, Zarqa, Riley, Jayden and Nadia. Also, lovingly remembered by Lenore McKeen, Jan Hansen, Roseann Shields and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Earl Hansen, granddaughter Laurie Hansen, parents Bill & Louise Eden, siblings Joyce, Ruth (John & Stephanie) Marshall and Jack (Germaine) Eden. Mom was born in Port Colborne and lived there almost her entire life until illness forced her to move to Extendicare. She would reminisce of her younger years, hanging out with her cousins (Bob & Richard) at her Grannie’s house on Humbolt Street and chasing the ice delivery truck to ask for a sliver of ice on hot days and of the excitement she felt when her brother Jack returned home safe from WW2. Mom started work at the gas station and restaurant that her father built and still stands at Hwy #3 and Elizabeth Street before going to business college and starting work at Robin Hood Flour where she met our dad at a dance. They were married for over 54 years and built their own house not far from where she grew up. While Dad was at work, mom would mix the cement and be ready to add another layer of block when he got home. After Mom raised her children, she took a job as rural mail carrier on RR #3 in Port Colborne which was a job she took great pride in. She would often come home in the winter with the front fenders on her Honda dented in from using it as a snowplow to get the mail into the mailboxes. The fenders were fixed by the body shop (Eno) every spring and ready for the next winter! In later years, Mom built beautiful gardens and painted murals in her backyard which became her sanctuary. Mom loved all animals including those inside and the strays outside her house and made sure all were healthy and none went hungry. Mom, we love and miss you. Thank you for all that you did for your family. Never miss an opportunity to say I Love You and give your pets an extra hug today! Cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date. Special thanks to all the staff at Extendicare St.Catharines and the Marotta Family Hospital Emergency Department and 3A for the compassionate care that you provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to your local humane society.
