Obituary of JAMES ANDREW WILLIAM KINASCHUK
Jamie Kinaschuk
It’s with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Jamie Andrew William Kinaschuk on February 18, 2025 from complications of pneumonia. He was 64 years old. Jamie was predeceased by his parents Anne and Metro, and older brother Gary. He will be greatly missed by brothers Dan (partner Nina ) and Ray (partner Julie), sister in-law Barbara Kinaschuk (Gary), and nieces Katie (Gary), Chantel and Brittany (Dan). As well, his favourite aunt Vera Kinaschuk. Jamie was the youngest of the four Kinaschuk brothers.
Prior, to entering university, Jamie had numerous jobs in a variety of fields including Marymount, Seven Oaks School Division, Security at True North, bingo and bartending at UNF. He was a dedicated and hard-working man holding multiple jobs on many occasions. Dan and Jamie would work together bundling firewood, Folk Fest, Bingo, Rikshaw and bartending. Jamie longed to help the elderly and would return to school. He would obtain a Bachelor of Arts from U of W in 1995. Continuing his education, Jamie graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work U of M in 2003. Jamie began his work with Age & Opportunity as a social worker in 2004. Jamie volunteered with Palliative Manitoba, Caregiving with Confidence and a support group for caregivers of the elderly.
Jamie always was proud of his Ukrainian Heritage. Jamie attended Ukrainian Sunday school at St. Vlads and Olga church and Ukrainian lessons. Jamie was involved with Ukrainian National Federation, St. Vlads, and started Ukrainian dance in his 40’s. Jamie loved all things Ukrainian: culture, music, dance, language and food. His favorite dishes were kubassa and perogies.
Jamie was one of a kind. He was full of fun and adventure. He participated in all kinds of sports organized and unorganized. Football, hockey(goalie), slo-pitch, baseball, biking and others. He was especially proud of being a Winnipeg Hawkeye Football Club and Sisler Spartan football and rugby. Jamie would mentor young people by coaching football. He enjoyed eating and drinking with his family, friends and co-workers. The day did not start until he had his Timmies. Jamie loved hanging out with his family and friends laughing and telling tales. It could be at a bar, the Forks, on a walk or an unauthorized coffee break. A great joy in his life was his trailer at Ukrainian Park near Gimli. He appreciated the quietness and relaxing time in nature. Jamie looked forward to his yearly trip to visit the family homestead and aunt Vera and family in Saskatchewan. Finally, Jamie loved getting together with family and his friends on holidays and special occasions. At Christmas, Jamie’s loved cooking a big turkey and on his birthday a Jeanne’s cake was a must. These were highlights of the year. He would organize celebrations to make sure these times were a celebration for friends and family. Jamie was a great friend who had a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to be compassionate and empathetic. He was kind and generous man. He was always welcoming and made you part of his family. He was extremely supportive and would stand by your side at all times. He was filled with love and this overflowing love was given to all. He will be greatly missed by his family and dear friends, Sandi and Ray Chartrand, Terry and Bernie Humphries, Wade and Shannon Bilodeau, Tracey and Ricki Lutchmeesingh, Ron Klowak and his work family at Age and Opportunity.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Grace Hospital ICU for their compassionate care.
