James Michael Nagy, born on July 31, 1938, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, to the late Stephen and Margaret Nagy, passed away on February 13, 2025.
He was a devoted father to Joanne (the late Richard) Walega, David Nagy, Karen (Rob) Ferns, and Deborah (Raymond) Waldo. A proud grandfather, James cherished his time with Jennifer (Jeff) Zajac, Robert (Tina) Walega, Amanda Nagy, Jacob Ferns, Sydney Ferns, Ethan Waldo, Zachary Waldo, Lauren Waldo, as well as his great-grandchildren, Brooklynn and Jaxson Zajac and Daniel Nagy.
He was preceded in death by siblings Stephen (1st wife Gaynor and 2nd wife Helen), Margaret (Donald) Adams, Alex Nagy and Frank (Elsie) Nagy.
A skilled electrician, James held a journeyman’s license and used his talents in many ways throughout his career with Detroit Edison. He also owned and operated a small but successful medical equipment repair company, showcasing his ingenuity and determination.
Beyond his professional life, James was deeply involved in his community. As an active member of the Dearborn Heights senior group, he contributed his technical skills to the group’s video team, where he enjoyed creating and editing videos. He also found great fulfillment in volunteering at the American Hungarian Reformed Church, where he was a dedicated member. He enjoyed attending city council meetings and was a member of the Commission on Aging.
He found great pride in his Hungarian culture and roots, even traveling to Hungary to discover his ancestral roots and was an active participant in the Hungarian American Cultural Center.
James was known for his quick wit and love of a good debate—no topic was too small or too grand for a spirited discussion. Above all, he adored his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. His warmth, intelligence, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His family will receive visitors on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the L.J. Griffin Funeral Home, 7707 Middlebelt Road (S. of Ann Arbor Trail) from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. His funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from the Griffin Chapel with gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m.
As per James final wishes he will be laid to rest at Hardwood Hill Cemetery in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada at a later date.
