James Maveety
January 8, 2025
Tequila started the story, unconditional love enhanced the story.
Jimmy Maveety, 57, passed away suddenly at home, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, after a 25-year battle with heart disease, showing his shining strength, courage and conviction to survive for his family and those who love him. He was born April 5, 1967, in Kingston, Ontario.
He believed family is everything!
Jimmy was the best conversational bartender starting in 1987, at Tramps followed by Hemingway’s, Hunters Crossing, O’Tooles, East Side Marios, James St. Pub, and finishing at Heart and Crown on Preston in 2021. These years created many stories and lifelong friendships. Most importantly it was through this that he met the love of his life, Marah McPherson!
All of the things to follow are a reflection of their story.
He and Marah lived their best life spending 37 years together with friends, family and having wonderful experiences which became their Love Story.
They celebrated many family milestones at LoneStar, for example, catering their wedding, celebrating birth announcements for their children and grandson. Jimmy enjoyed making barbecue ribs, wings and filled a lot of tummies.
Jimmy had a love and knowledge of music that he shared with his daughter, Ellis recently sending his mom this message, “As soon as I started listening to this video; I knew every word. Thanks Mom, for putting me on to good music. Ellis, through listening to all the music I played when she was growing up; puts me to shame! She knows it all. Now Jag is already on his way to eclipse us all”. Because of that love of music, and the proudest moments of his life, he picked the music his children were born to, Ellis “You will be blessed” and for Brett, “Beautiful Boy”.
Jimmy loved being Brett’s biggest fan. While he played hockey, or any kind of sports Jimmy always said, “come off with your head sweaty”. It is all about work ethic. He made a backyard hockey rink for Brett with the 137 hockey pucks always in a milk crate “just in case”.
Some of Jimmys most proud moments were teaching the kids to skate, drive, play, cook, walking Ellis down the aisle, and watching Brett follow his dream to become a firefighter. Then one of his biggest smiles came from the day he first met his grandson Jagger and officially became a “Grumpa”. He enjoyed spending time with his family at Blue Sea Lake fishing, boating and just being with those he loved.
Charlie, Jimmy’s sidekick was a member of the family from the day he was rescued, but the true question is who rescue rescued who. Charlie was always watching over Jimmy and Jimmy was Charlie’s everything following his heart transplant. To learn more about his transplant journey read it on Jimshearts.com We would like to thank our Hockey community/family and those on Jim’s Hearts who have encouraged us on this journey. You are loved and appreciated.
He was a Leafs Fan “they can’t hear you Jim” and he was a Cleveland Browns fan enjoying tailgate parties and time in the Dog Pound. He passed on his love for football to Ellis, apologizing saying, he was sorry he had a bad habit for picking the wrong team.
Jimmys love will remain in the hearts of his beloved Marah; children Ellis (Michael) Elias and Brett Maveety; grandson, Jagger; mother, Maureen Maveety; sister, Sara (James) and parents, Dave and Mary Lynn McPherson and many others who were blessed to love him.
All these experiences, he never expected he would live to see, but because someone shared the precious gift of life, he had that opportunity. We are forever grateful. In honor of Jimmy, please register to be an organ donor at www.beadonor.ca .
