Moncton, NB – It is with tremendous heartbreak that we announce the passing of Thelma Dupuis (née Young), occurring Friday, February 28th, 2025, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family in her own home.
Born in Benjamin River, New Brunswick to parents Alfred and Laura (Furlotte) Young on May 29th, 1939, Thelma grew up ‘in the crowd’ as the 12th eldest of 17 children in Benjamin River, before moving to Moncton at 18.
Thelma worked for many years as a caregiver for local families in the Moncton area before starting her own family. Once her own children were grown, she returned to caregiving for children at the YMCA and later played an indelible role in the upbringing and care of her granddaughters. She enjoyed bowling for numerous years with her husband and friends, and in recent years, was a regular patron of her community’s bingo nights with her sister, Hilda.
Thelma enjoyed knitting, quilting by hand, and baking, almost always something for her loved ones, watching the birds visit her back porch, and tending to the potted plants in the front window of her home. An avid jigsaw puzzle and word search enthusiast, Thelma was known for her sharp wit and attention to detail. More than anything, Thelma enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, never missing her granddaughter’s sporting events, family reunions, weddings, or anniversary celebrations, and finding the greatest joy in spending quality time with the ones she loved.
She leaves behind an abundance of love in the hearts and memories of her husband of 63 and a half years, Leon Dupuis; her four children, Michael, David (Susan Sullivan), Aileen (Andre Gauvin), and Mark; her four granddaughters, Danielle (Seb Vautour) Gauvin, Madeleine Gauvin, Monika Gauvin, and Emma Gauvin; and her remaining siblings, Hilda (Bill) White, Winnie (Vernon) Fearon, Bunny (Martin) Dornan, Viola Young, Mae (Rubert) Hickey, Shirley (John) Smykalski, Jerome (Elsie) Young, France Young, Frances (Emery) Lapointe, and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Laura Young, and siblings Florence (Melvin) Allain, Jeanette (Joey) Leiken, Alfred (Bernice) Young, James (Joyce) Young, Marie Thelma Young, Lena (Alden) Laakso and John Young.
Visitation will be held from Passage-Chartersville, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, (506) 857-1901, on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, from 1 pm to 1:50 pm, followed by the service in the chapel at 2 pm.
Donations may be made in Thelma’s honour to the Canadian Cancer Society.
The family invites you to sign a book of condolences at: www.funerairepassagefuneral.ca.
