Death Notice of Helen Gammon
Helen Alvina Gammon (August 2, 1934 – February 16, 2025)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Helen Alvina Gammon (nee Weppler), in her 91st year, on February 16, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised on a family farm outside Varney, Ontario, Helen was the beloved wife of William (Bill) Leonard Gammon for more than 68 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Hilda Wilhelmine Kraft Weppler and Eugene Philip Weppler, and her brother Wesley.
Helen was a loving and devoted sister to Elsie and Lawrence (Patty); sister-in-law to Carleen; and mother to Deanne (David), Katrina (Steve), Susan (Brian), Mary Ellen (Jim). She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Johnathon (Leah), Helen Marie (Chris), Steven, Sarah (Myles), Emily (Matthew), Graham, Andrew, Sydney, Kurtis, and Kyle, and a great-grandmother to Madeline, Riley, and Lucas. Helen was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her fourth great-grandchild, Cormack. Helen will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Helen and Bill met in Saint-Hubert, Quebec, while serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Together, they shared many treasured memories, particularly from their time based in Scotland and Germany. Their love for each other was evident, and after their time abroad, they returned to the Weppler family farm where they built their forever retirement home and nurtured an apple orchard, honey farm, vegetable garden, and many pets. Helen especially loved her beloved dog, Buster.
Helen had a deep love for flowers, able to name every bloom she encountered. She never went anywhere without a camera, and had a well-known sweet tooth – whether it was a homemade pie, a butter tart, or a simple chocolate treat, she believed there was always room for something sweet.
You could always find Helen and Bill together, whether at Tim Hortons, yard sales, or simply out walking, hand-in-hand. Their bond was a testament to a life of love and partnership.
Helen will be remembered for her unwavering love for Bill and her family, her kind and nurturing spirit, and her appreciation for life’s simple joys – flowers in bloom, a well-tended garden, and her commitment to the home farm she so dearly loved.
A funeral service will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 25, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment will occur at Maplewood Cemetery in the spring.
The family kindly requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
