Zwicker- Hattie Matilda, 78, Murphy Cove left this place she knew as home and was received into heaven on Saturday April 26, 2025 by the angels. Born in Murphy Cove August 20, 1946 she was a daughter of the late Stanley Murphy & Bertha (Levy) Eddy-Murphy. Hattie worked at Maritime Newspaper in Halifax in her earlier years. She was very devoted to her great grandchildren Miranda Lynn and Roger Dennis Alexander Mansfield. In her younger years she would often babysit her niece and nephew Audie and Trina and play the purple monster, to them it was the purple people eater. She would put a blanket over her head and scare them around the house. Trina would screech at the top of her lungs and Audie would hide under the kitchen table, but would always want more. Hattie would always stay with the children in the neighbourhood for hours at the beach, as the kids swam from sunrise to sunset. She would always go out trick or treating with the kids on Halloween just so they would be safe as they walked the dark roads of the Eastern Shore. Everyone knew Hattie was there with them bringing them home with all their treats. Hattie was a loving and caring wife to her husband of 38 years and a mother to her only daughter who appreciated her when her grandmother passed as she carried on the generation, and to her granddaughter the times with her were precious, every day that she got to spend with her Nan as she was the last one left. Nothing would prepare her for this change in life, too soon, and to the two grandkids who will grow up knowing what a gentle and caring person she really was. She had a heart of gold and a smile every time they came for a visit. Hattie also enjoyed reading books under the oil lamps until the wee hours of the night, doing word books and writing letters to her sister in British Columbia. She was a nature person and animals such as deer, rabbits and ducks would travel through the yard for food and seed. Survived by husband Maurice, daughter Rebecca (Guy) Murphy, brother James (Jean), sister Gloria Stevens, granddaughter Vanessa (Matthew) Murphy, great granddaughter Miranda Mansfield, great grandson Roger Mansfield, step-sons; Ken (Donna) Zwicker, Darrell Zwicker. Predeceased by sister in-law Laverne Murphy, step-sons; Keith Zwicker and Wendall Zwicker. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held Saturday May 3, 2025 at 2pm in St. Peters Anglican Church, Murphy Cove, burial in the church cemetery beside her parents. God has taken you to a better place. You are free now, fly high my Momma dove, and I will see you again someday along with the rest of the family as it should be in the next life and then we will be all together at last.
