Günter Struck
September 9, 1941 – January 28, 2025
Beloved husband of Mathilde, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025, after struggling with cancer and Alzheimer’s, in the comfort of their home in Orangeville, Ontario. Gunter was the last surviving member of his family. He will be fondly remembered by Mathilde, her Swiss siblings and their loyal friends.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, on September 9th, 1941, Gunter was determined to live a life of significance. He made an investment on his future at an early age by moving to Paris to study French, Majorca to learn Spanish and emigrated to Canada in 1968. Gunter was proud of his German heritage and certainly inherited an excellent work ethic. He was industrious about everything. Whether it was playing tennis in his twenties, or learning to line dance in his seventies, there was never a shortage of practice or determination. Gunter was a man of conviction, he even had to work very hard to get a first date with Mathilde. After unsuccessful attempts due to scheduling, he agreed to accompany her to the dentist for her wisdom teeth extraction.
Gunter sure knew how to write his own story. Air Canada was fortunate to hire this multilingual, handsome chef to join the elite group of InFlight Pursers.
What a dream to fly around the globe, tasting all the local delicacies while getting paid to relax on Hilton Hotel layovers. Gunter liked to say “if only my mother could see me now”.
This was the perfect career for Gunter, with Air Canada passes the world became his oyster. He could explore the road less travelled, be an adventurer pursuing his photography passion. Air Canada also allowed time off to become the Better’s Best Christmas Tree grower. Farming was a blessing for it checked so many of Gunter’s boxes. Enjoying nature, growing his own vegetables, buying Kubota tractors, and building a beautiful home with a spectacular view of the Hockley Valley. The Christmas tree farm was Gunter’s happy place. He loved creating special memories for families choosing and cutting their annual Christmas tree.
Gunter’s zest for life will live on in all those who knew and loved him.
As per Gunter’s request there will be a private celebration of life in the spring. A season of rebirth.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gunter’s memory can be made to the Bethell Hospice Foundation.
Mathilde is sincerely grateful to The Bayshore Health Care Palliative Nurses who compassionately cared for Gunter in his final days.
