Hennin, Gordon Joseph “Pete”
February 20, 1956 – March 18, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Pete Hennin, who passed away peacefully on
March 18, 2025, at the age of 69, surrounded by the love of his family.
Pete is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lesley. Loving dad to Melissa (Michael Bernard), Krystle-Ann (Gary) Potvin, Nolan (Brie Robertson), and Jessica (David) Racine. Cherished Pépé “Pips” to Quinn, Trace, Brielle, Abel, Noah, and Grace. Brother to Glen (Patty), Greg (Mary-Beth), and Gerry (Rob). Predeceased by his parents, Gord and Eileen Hennin. Pete will be forever missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues from US Ecology.
His family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Seski, Dr. Blaszak, Dr. Veinberg and all the nurses who provided care and support during his treatment, especially Erin, Rose, and Sarah from WRH – Metropolitan Campus.
Pete was a devoted husband, father, son, Pépé, brother, uncle, and friend. He lived his life with patience, humour, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that made every day an adventure. Taking after his dad, he loved spending time on the water, whether it was a peaceful day fishing or simply being outdoors, surrounded by nature. He especially enjoyed camping with his family at The Pinery, where he found joy in watching the sunset over the dunes.
Pete found great fulfillment in his career. He was highly knowledgeable in his field, working first as a chemist and later as a customer service manager in environmental waste management. He took great pride in his work.
Always drawn to the open road, Pete enjoyed long scenic motorcycle trips. His love for vehicles didn’t stop there—whether it was his beloved truck or classic cars, he always had an eye for a great ride.
A lifelong sports fan, he cheered for his Detroit Lions, the Red Wings, and the Toronto Blue Jays. More than just a spectator, Pete was his children’s biggest supporter in their own sports, whether it was early mornings at hockey tournaments or traveling for soccer games. He took great pride in cheering them on from the stands, never missing a game.
His life was also filled with music, and he passed that passion on to his children. He collected instruments, built an impressive record collection, and enjoyed hunting for vintage stereo equipment to restore. A true thrifting and auction enthusiast, he always found treasures in the unexpected.
Pete appreciated the simple pleasures in life. He loved a good scotch or bourbon, savouring the warmth of a well-earned drink. His quick wit and silly humour filled every room with laughter.
Above all, Pete was devoted to his family. He adored his wife and children unconditionally and found immense joy in time spent with his grandchildren. His deep love for those around him will be cherished forever. His presence will be missed beyond measure.
Though he is gone, his stories, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
Ride fast, play loud, and rest easy, Pete.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cardiac Care Prince Road and The Canadian Cancer Society.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 30th, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Families First Funeral Home, 585 Sandwich Street South, Amherstburg (519-969-5841). A moment of remembrance to share stories and memories will begin at 4:30 PM.
