It is with great sadness that the family of Gordie Chamberlain announce his sudden death on February 19, 2025.
He was predeceased by his parents, Blair (2010) and Betty (2020), his nephew Bradley (2019), his 1st wife, Beverly Miles (2007), and his step son, Robbie Miles (2009).
He is survived by his loving partner of 15 years, Nancy Young. He was a wonderful step-father to her two daughters Ashley (Josh) and Shannon (Peter). His grandchildren, Norman and Monty, Stella and Ivy will greatly miss the daily hugs and cookies from Gordo. He will also be greatly missed by Mrs. Edith Young.
He is also survived by his brothers, Kenny (Kathy), Bobby (Ellen), Donnie (Liz), Brian (Christine), Bruce (Joanne) his sister Ann (Gilles), nephews Scott, Adam and Luke along with nieces Erin, Sally and Kathryn and his aunt, Joyce Beavens and cousins Lois and David (Connie).
He followed in his dad’s footsteps and became a pipefitter at the Smurfit- Stone paper mill. After the mill’s closure in 2005, he worked across Canada as a pipefitter. Gordie developed severe arthritis in his hands which limited his ability to continue in his trade. Advancement in arthritis treatment over the last few years allowed him more mobility and he was able to help out at the Camping Youghall which he really enjoyed.
Gordie was a great hockey player. At age 15, he played a season in the Ontario Midget hockey league and then returned to Bathurst. He was on two High School winning provincial teams and went on to play with the Papermakers. Gordie coached the Bathurst High School hockey team for 6 seasons. He was a great supporter of the Titans having been involved with their players billeting program for many years. These players became part of the greater Chamberlain family and would attend all family gatherings.
A celebration of Gordie’s wonderful life will take place at Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club on February 25, 2025 from 3:00- 5:00PM.
Donations in memory of Gordie can be made to the Bathurst SPCA (880 Riordon Ave., Bathurst, NB E2A 4W7) or charity of the donor’s choice.
