Glenda Nixon passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at the age of 83 years.
Glenda will be dearly missed by her three daughters Shelley Gillingwater (Robb) of Moncton, NB, Darilyn Gaucher (Keith) and Allison Warga (Ray), all of Calgary; Eight grandchildren Mitchell Gillingwater (Adrienne), Courtnay Gillingwater, Jocelyn Gaucher, Cameron Gaucher, Zachary Gaucher, Logan Warga, Emerald Warga and Jackson Warga; and two great-grandchildren Ethan and Colin. Glenda is also survived by two sisters Jeannine McCollum (Sam) and Sheila Wright; a brother Tom Jensen; and a sister-in-law Ladene Jensen; and many other relatives and friends.
Glenda was predeceased by her parents Glen and Fern Jensen, and a brother Brie Jensen.
Glenda was born in Lethbridge and raised on the family farm in Chin Lake. After excelling at grade school, she moved to Edmonton at age 16 to attend the University of Alberta, studying Math and Teaching and receiving a teaching certificate. In 1962, she was married and lived in Calgary to start her family with her husband Tom Nixon. She became a single mother subsequently and, during these challenging years, she taught school, completed her teaching degree in 1979 and obtained a Masters in 1999. Glenda was wise, hardworking and resourceful, investing her energy in raising her daughters, teaching, music and church. As the family matured and she was granted more time, she spent more time with her musical interests, her church life and added volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. In retirement, after 46 years of teaching (most with the CBE), she took the opportunity to travel and stay closely connected to her peers at the Retired Teacher’s Association. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the main focus of her life, which included spending summers in New Brunswick. She will be dearly remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

A Funeral Service will be held for Glenda at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – California Blvd Chapel (7017 California Boulevard NE, Calgary) on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 am. Cremation will follow at Foothills Crematorium. The Service will be broadcast live from a link we will add here prior to the funeral.
