Obituary of GARY RAYMOND HUDEY
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Gary Hudey on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the age of 72. Gary was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judy; his parents, Mary and John; and his sister, Lynda.
Gary was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, partner, and friend. He leaves behind his sons, Ryan (Ashley) and Trevor (Adrianne), along with his cherished grandsons, Jaxen and Carter, who were his greatest pride and joy. He will also be deeply missed by his brother, Steven (Linda); his brother-in-law, Gerry (Eva); his companion, Brenda; his nieces and nephews; his dear friends Daryl and Madonna, with whom he shared countless adventures; and many others whose lives he touched.
Born on October 6, 1952, in Brandon, Manitoba, Gary grew up with a passion for adventure, a love for family, and an unmatched zest for life. On September 8, 1973, Gary married the love of his life, Judy, and together they built a family filled with love and laughter. With the births of their sons, Ryan in 1981 and Trevor in 1986, their lives grew even richer.
The Hudey family shared a love of adventure, creating lasting memories on camping trips and vacations to Hawaii, Florida, Morden Meadows trailer park, and their beloved cabin at Brewster Bay. Gary’s sense of humor, warmth, and willingness to embrace new experiences brought joy to these moments, filling them with laughter and love.
Gary’s passion for motorsports and sports was evident throughout his life. Whether cheering on hockey and football games as an “armchair coach,” riding his scooter, or tinkering with engines, his energy and enthusiasm were infectious. He was a familiar, friendly face at the Interlake Dragway, where he formed friendships with people from around the world. An avid hockey player in his younger days, Gary even had the opportunity to try out for professional teams but chose a different path, captivated by a girl he liked. Later, he became a dedicated coach, sharing his love for hockey and mentoring Trevor’s team for many years.
« The Shop » was a special place for Gary—not just a workshop but a gathering spot for friends and family. Here, he and his second family, Daryl and Madonna, shared countless laughs, stories, and unforgettable moments. Whether fixing up a snowmobile, fishing at the lake, or spending weekends at the cabin, Gary found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured the people he held close. After Judy’s passing in 2019, the cabin became his retreat and the place where he spent most of his time.
Gary was a man of deep relationships, boundless kindness, and unwavering loyalty. His warm laugh, generous heart, and ability to connect with others left an impression on everyone he met. He cherished his role as a father and grandfather, always showering his family with love, support, and wisdom.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their kindness and support during this difficult time. Gary touched countless lives, and his absence will leave a void that cannot be filled. A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at « The Shop » at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor his memory in a place he loved dearly. Gary you were a legend, you will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Rest easy, until we meet again, and give Mom our love. May your adventures together continue.
