Garth Elgin Routledge of Virden Manitoba, beloved husband of Maxine Routledge passed away on Saturday, March 1 at the age of 72. Garth spent the majority of his life in the Lenore Community. He was born the second child to Elgin and Irene Routledge on March 25, 1952 and raised on the farm. After attending the University of Manitoba, Garth returned to Lenore to continuing farming, purchasing his Uncle Doug’s homestead. In 1973, Garth and Maxine married and raised 3 children on the farm. Always a farmer at heart, Garth continued to help monitor calving by watching Chris’s barn cameras up until the end. Garth was an avid community member, contributing as a board member of the Fort La Boss School Division, Kenton Co-op Board, and Lenore Community Club . In addition, Garth spent many years on Manitoba Beef Producers and the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association.
Garth had a love for traveling, exploring and always willing to try new foods. In retirement, Garth and Maxine travelled to Australia, New Zealand, China, England, Scottland, France, Belgium, San Fransico, Hawaii, Caribbean and the Canadian East Coast.
Garth was predeceased by parents Elgin and Irene and siblings Barb and Les as well as Maxine’s father Allan Gardiner and sister Beverly. He is survived by his wife Maxine, children Darren, Chris (Charlene; grandchildren Owen & Avery) and Lyndsay (Jeff Smith; grandchildren Madison & Kelsey), his brothers Russ (Sharron) & Barry (Kathy), mother in-law Patricia Gardiner, brother in-law’s Lorne (Myrna), Brad, and Mark (Shannon) as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
The funeral service will be held at Lenore Community Hall on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 2:00 pm with Marilyn Warkentin officiating. A private family interment service will take place at Breadalbane Cemetery.
