Garry’s Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we share the sudden passing of Garry Carl Robinson, at the age of 77, at the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital.
Garry was born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on March 14, 1947 to Carl and Jean Robinson. Shortly afterwards their family settled in Red Lake to which the family would remain long term residents.
As a youth he enjoyed playing local sports, ultimately earning a football scholarship to Cornell University. He also was an avid outdoorsman, and was often found fishing and enjoying the beautiful scenery of Red Lake, Coli Lake, or any surrounding area that presented an opportunity for adventure and a fresh lunch.
He began his career at a young age working at local tourist camps, gaining invaluable knowledge and experience which he happily recalled in frequent conversations.
He found his calling as a construction Millwright, and worked on a wide array of projects across Northwestern Ontario for many years, even branching out on projects that would take him as far as China.
In the late 1980’s he settled down to start a family, and also opened Garry’s Shell Service, a bulk fuels agency that operated at Harrys Corner for many years. He later transitioned to a mini-storage business, and eventually into retirement.
In recent years he remained a strong supporter of the Red Lake area, and found enjoyment in his garden, and spending time with his grandsons Karl and Teddy.
Through his endeavors he always managed to find good people, forming connections and lasting friendships that would persist through the years.
Garry is predeceased by his parents, Carl and Jean(Laforrest), brother Ron, sister in-law Teri(Litterer), and brother in-law Ron Sidor.
He is survived by his wife Audrey of 45 years, sons Jim, Ian (Melissa), Ken (Amanda), and Eric (Sarah), brother Bob (Donna K.), sister Donna Miller (John), sisters in-law Debbie Sidor, Cathy (Ed) Majewski, Karen (Chris), « CJ » (Liz), grandchildren Eve, Archer, Karl, Teddy, and the many cousins, nieces and nephews he was proud to call family.
The Robinson family would like to extend special thanks to the Red Lake Paramedics for their urgency and care, and doctors Aniol and Zielke for their help and care over the years.
Cremation will take place with a celebration of life scheduled for 1:00 pm Friday, February 28th at the Red Lake Legion. All are welcome to attend.
Donations in his memory may be made to a Charity of Choice through the Red Lake Chapel, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
