Francis Magennis Obituary
It is with deep love and great sadness that the family of Francis Magennis, loving husband of Fay (Keating) Magennis, announce his peaceful passing on February 25, 2025, surrounded by family at Kennebec Manor. Born in Elliotvale PEI, on August 1, 1941, he was the son of the late Terrence and Marion (O’Donnell) Magennis.
Francis is survived by his wife Fay (Keating), his children Karen (George Morrow), Mark and Paul. Also, his brother, Leo (Brenda), sister, Helen Dunning (Doyle), his grandson, Bradley and bonus granddaughters Amanda and Carissa, along with dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Joseph (Marie), Earl (Marie), Michael (Thelma) and sisters, Rosella O’Brien (Junior), and Rita McIntrye (Donnie).
Francis was the heart of his family—a loving husband to Fay, a proud father to Karen, Mark, and Paul, and an adoring grandfather to Bradley, who was the light of his life. He was a loyal friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand, share a good story, and brighten a room with his quick wit and warm smile. It felt like he knew everyone, and everyone who met him left with a little more joy in their hearts.
He was dedicated employee with JDI, while also part-time the Canadian Pari Mutual Agency (The Track) for 40 years. After retiring he worked another 7 years with Kent Building Supplies, where his friendly nature and work ethic made him well-loved by colleagues and customers alike. He was a 20-year member of the Lions Club and a long-time volunteer with minor hockey.
Outside of work, Francis found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved tending to his yard and garden, taking trips to Prince Edward Island to visit family, and traveling and cruising with Fay. So many nights were spent around the card table, laughing and playing with family and friends. One of his greatest joys was taking long walks with Missy, the family dog who rarely left his side. But perhaps his proudest moments were spent supporting his children, driving countless kilometers to hockey games and dance classes, always cheering them on with unwavering love.
In his later years, nothing brought Francis more happiness than his grandson Bradley, whose laughter and energy filled his heart. The bond they shared was one of pure love, and he cherished every moment with him.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Kennebec Manor for their kindness and compassionate care in Francis’s final years.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Francis’s love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of life be held at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, from 6-8pm on Friday, February 28th, 2025. The funeral service will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, March 1st, 2025, at St. Mary’s & St Bartholomew’s Church, 646 Westmorland Rd, with interment at Fernhill Cemetery, followed by reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers donations made to Kennebec Manor would be greatly appreciated.
