It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Frances Valerie Swinamer, age 86, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. She was our matriarch, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend. Formerly from Three Mile Plains, she was the daughter of the late Lillian Gertrude (Mortimer) Fleet and Herman Spencer and step-father, Oliver Fleet.
Mom was born in London, England on February 26, 1939. She came to Canada at the age of seven with her mother and siblings to reside in Brooklyn, Hants County.
Frances worked at Sobeys for twenty-five years as a meat packer and cashier. She was a pillar of her community and was one of the first to offer help or food or anything she could for anyone in need. She volunteered for many organizations starting with the Three Mile Plains Hall. Frances was treasurer for the hall for over forty years. She tended bar with her husband, ran card parties and donated food for various events. Her baked beans were off the charts. Frances received many volunteer of the year awards and the Queens Jubilee medal. She was involved with the Hants County Exhibition for over thirty years. She was on the ox committee, keeping all the stats and was still on the arts and crafts committee to this day.
No one ever left her home hungry. She loved to cook, bake and knit. There was always a cup of tea or a hot meal for everyone. Frances loved her family very much and took great pride in everything they did and attended as many hockey games as she could.
She is survived by her children, Ralph (Janet), Mt. Denson; Brenda (Rick), Bishopville and Heather (Garry), Upper Vaughan; six grandchildren, Eugene (Elizabeth), Shaun (Barbara), Starr (Trevor), Joey (Sarah), Stephen (Vanessa) and Aaron (Fallon); 13 great grandchildren, Austin (Kendalyn), Delaney (Ryan), Tyler, Dallas, Olivia, Scotia, Ritchie (Emily), Josh, Quentin (Karlee), Hannah (Skyler), Tarissa, Paisley and Easton; great-great grandchild, Keegan and another, Wesley (to be born in a few weeks); sisters, Edna Lantz (Darrell), Three Mile Plains; Judy Porter, Union Corner and Debby Bland, Windsor; sister-in-law, Doreen; brother, John Fleet (Carol Anne); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Frances was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Freeman; son, Wade; daughter, Crystal; sisters, Pauline, Sheila and Jean.
A very special thank you to the staff on Young Park at Dykeland Lodge for the excellent care and compassion you showed mom during her stay there. Special thank you to Marley, Sabrina, Zoe, Holly and Shiloh for your kindness and compassion, she loved you all. A very special thank you to Richard and Shelly Dauphinee who were friends to mom and dad for over 50 years. You shared a special bond and will never be forgotten. To her special friend Carol, her roommate, you will always be friends forever.
