Obituary of Evangelos Kokkinos
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Evangelos Kokkinos, who left us peacefully at the age of 90.
Born in Magoula, Sparta, Greece, to Konstantinos and Stamata, he was the beloved husband of the late Elefteria Moustaki Kokkinos. He was a devoted father to Martha Zygoumis (Kosta), Tina Marins (Aramis), and Niki Kokkinos.
He will be forever cherished by his grandchildren Zafira Zygoumis (Christos Makris), Angie Marins, Elefteria Zygoumis (Niko Zervas), and Christopher Marins, as well as by his great-granddaughter Stamatia Makris, who brought him endless joy.
He was the loving brother of the late Panagiotis Kokkinos (late Panayiota), late Nicholas Kokkinos, Panagiotitza Kioulos (late Athanasios), the late Georgia (late George Karabinieris) and the late Dimitris Kokkinos (Marianthi). He is also survived by his brother-in-law Kosta Moustakis (Litsa), and will be fondly remembered as a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews, as well as a beloved cousin and friend to many in Canada, United States, and Greece.
At the age of 18, Evangelos enlisted in the Greek Air Force, where he proudly trained as a general mechanic, skills he carried with pride throughout his life. Destiny led him to Canada, where he was united with his beloved fiancée, Elefteria, the first in the family to settle in Montreal, Quebec. They married in Montreal, began their life together, and welcomed three daughters. In the years that followed, Evangelos became a successful restaurant entrepreneur, working with devotion and pride in every venture. After time in Montreal, Kingston and Greece, he settled in Ottawa, where he lived most of his life. There, he built not only his businesses but also a community of friends and patrons who remained dear to him throughout the years.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and gardening, but above all, he treasured time spent with his daughters and grandchildren, sharing laughter, playing cards, and creating lasting memories together.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and hard work. His presence will be deeply missed, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will take place at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa on Wednesday September 24th from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by the Funeral Service. Interment will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road , Ottawa. The family invites everyone to the church basement for the “Makaria” following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Evangelos’ memory can be made to the Hellenic Community of Ottawa in memory of Evangelos Kokkinos.
