Erling Andersen
juin 20, 1947 — février 25, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the Andersen family announces the sudden passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Erling was born on June 20, 1947, in Vilsbæk, Denmark, the second of three sons to Lorenz and Christine Andersen. He lived in Denmark until 1951 when their young family moved to Prince Albert when Erling was 4 years old.
Erling attended Moose Jaw College to pursue a career in drafting that lasted well over 50 years.
In 1972, Erling married Helen Bourassa and with their three children, moved throughout the prairies as Erling worked for various companies. In 1995, Erling and Helen started Andfam Steel Detailers EH! and based their business out of Warman Saskatchewan for a decade. In 2016 he was honoured by the Saskatoon Construction Association by receiving an honorary life member status.
When Erling was 19 he was one of ten men that founded the Regina Condors Rugby club in 1967. It was with great pride that he spoke at the Condor’s 50th anniversary, in 2017, to commemorate the occasion.
Throughout his life, Erling was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts and the Saskatchewan Service Corps and spent many hours at the Anglin Lake scout camp. He loved camping and sharing his love of outdoorsmanship with his kids and grandchildren. He had a special talent for crafting diamond willow walking sticks which he made for family and special friends.
Erling took great pride in his Danish heritage, returning to visit relatives in Denmark with his Canadian family on numerous occasions. He was also past president of the Saskatoon Scandinavian Club where they hosted many talent shows, ate traditional Danish meals and drank and shared Aquavit with people that actually enjoyed it!
Erling enjoyed travelling within Saskatchewan and Canada as well as throughout Europe and southern sunny destinations during the winter.
Although a quiet man of few words, he was a social person and thoroughly enjoyed his northern fishing trips with good friends and playing cards with the same card club for 20 years.
He was always eager to lend a hand to family and friends and those in need. He was hardworking and always dependable; if something needed to be done, he was first to volunteer. Erling was a volunteer for Canadian Blood Services and had donated blood 283 times.
Erling is pre-deceased by his parents, Lorenz and Christine Andersen; father-in-law, Etienne Bourassa; and brother-in-law, Ron Bourassa.
He will be lovingly remember by his wife of 52 years, Helen (nee Bourassa); his son, Michael (Jeanette) and their children and Erling’s grandchildren, Maizie and Ella; his son, Ryan (Corinne) and their children and Erling’s grandchildren, Graye and Tegan; his daughter, Kristen Baars (Chris) and their children and Erling’s grandchildren, Amber and Charlotte; his brothers, Erik (Judy) and Finn (Lynn); his mother-in-law, Anna Bourassa; his brother-in-law, Gene Bourassa (Anne); his sisters-in-law, Laurette Bourassa, and Carlene Bourassa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many good friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving blood or donating to Canadian Blood Services. www.blood.ca/en/ways-donate/financial-donations
A Celebration of Erling’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Ave. North). A private interment will take place at a later date.
